Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 885
Gavin returned to the villa late that night, completely worn out. Nan and Erik had already left—Nan heading back to Chester, Erik returning to his mother and sister. Even though Gavin was barely keeping his eyes open, I still told him everything I’d learned.
The moment I mentioned that we might need to take Chuck to the Silver Crescent Pack to break the curse, he was wide awake.
At first—just as Nan and Erik had warned—he didn’t want me going anywhere near Alpha Jeremy’s territory or getting involved in something this dangerous. But the longer he thought about it, the clearer it became that we didn’t really have a choice. Irene’s curse was getting worse, and neither of us understood why.
Irene came home extremely late that night, completely drunk. I helped her to bed and changed her clothes. Drunk Irene was… not a good look. After that, Gavin finally agreed to the plan and contacted Alpha Jeremy the next morning. Once he explained everything, Alpha Jeremy readily agreed to help.
Now we were sitting in Gavin’s private plane, heading to France for the second time in a month, and my nerves were a mess. We brought a few Gammas with us in case things escalated, including Erik. Nan ultimately decided she couldn’t take another day off from her restaurant, so she stayed behind. I couldn’t blame her—and honestly, I hadn’t really expected her to come anyway.
“I feel kind of guilty for not telling Irene where we’re going.”
Earlier, Gavin had asked her to stay home with Matt while we were gone for the night. She asked where we were going, and we had to lie.
“Yeah, I didn’t like lying to her either,” Gavin admitted. “But it’s for her own good. We have to do this, or she might end up ruining herself even more than she already has.”
I lifted my head and looked at him.
“Ruining herself?” I asked.
He let out a slow breath and nodded as he pulled out his phone.
“I found out where she was last night,” he said, unlocking it and swiping through the screen until he found what he was looking for.
He turned the phone toward me, and my heart dropped straight into my stomach when I read the headline.
Second Mate in over a year… What is Irene Landry hiding?
“What is this?” I asked, swallowing hard.
“Scroll,” he muttered. “There’s a video from last night at the end.”
I took his phone and scrolled through the article, reading lie after lie the paparazzi had written about her. I paused at the video, hesitated, then pressed play.
Irene was clearly drinking—and not her first drink of the night. Her makeup was smeared, her expression unfocused. It was nothing like how she was ever seen in public.
“Irene Landry, are the rumors true?” a paparazzi woman asked as the camera zoomed in. “Did your fated mate cheat on you just over a year after your chosen mate left you?”
Irene turned toward the reporter, sneering. Then her blue eyes shifted to the camera, and a slow grin spread across her face.
“Let me tell you one thing,” she said, pointing straight at the lens. “Ethan didn’t leave me—I left him. And Chuck is an asshole for what he did to me, but he’s still my mate. I won’t let you slander him or talk badly about me and my choices. What happens in my relationship stays in my relationship. As of now, we’re talking and trying to figure things out as a couple. Please respect our privacy.”
She ended with a loud belch.
My jaw dropped. I didn’t even know Irene was capable of making a sound like that. I turned to Gavin, and he simply nodded as he took his phone back.
I thought about what Erik had said—that the curse seemed to be getting worse. About how Matt noticed Irene hadn’t been well.
My stomach twisted. Could her communication with Chuck be the reason?
“Is she really still talking to Chuck?” I asked, my hands trembling in my lap.
“I don’t know,” Gavin said, shaking his head. “I had Taylor check her phone. She deletes her messages, but he can recover them. He’s working on it now—it’ll take time.”
“That’s a pretty serious invasion of privacy, Mr. Landry,” I said teasingly, raising an eyebrow.
The corner of his mouth lifted into a small smile. “When it comes to my kids, nothing is off limits. I’ll do whatever it takes to keep them safe.”
Then he added quietly, “All of them,” as he rested his hand over the gentle swell of my belly.
