Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 880
I paused, letting my gaze sweep across every face in the crowd.
“But I did grow up fighting for people who didn’t have a voice,” I continued. “I grew up protecting those who couldn’t protect themselves. And I didn’t cheat to get here.”
Something inside me shifted, as if the power within was listening—responding to every word.
“I won that competition because I earned it,” I said firmly. “Every bruise. Every broken bone. Every hour of training. And if you actually watched the footage instead of believing gossip, you’d already know that.”
A low hum rippled through the air.
Some people swallowed hard. Others stepped back without even realizing they were doing it.
“I’m not perfect,” I went on. “I don’t know everything, and I won’t pretend that I do. But I will learn. I will listen. And I will protect this pack with everything I have. Some of you know me. I grew up with you. And you know I’m not deceitful—never have been.”
Mouths fell open. Phones were raised everywhere, flashes going off, cameras rolling. All I could see were wide eyes and stunned expressions.
“Holy shit… what the hell are you?” Olivia whispered, stumbling back as she stared at me.
Without waiting for an answer, she spun toward the shocked crowd. “And this is exactly why Judy shouldn’t be our Luna! Look at her! She’s a freak! We deserve someone more worthy—someone like Lila Blackwell!”
Wait… what?
Before I could even process what she’d said, Nan rushed toward me. Draped over her arms was a long, dark coat—Gavin’s.
Confusion washed over me as she wrapped it around my shoulders and gently turned me away from the crowd. I searched for Gavin, but he was gone. Irene and Matt were gone too.
“What’s going on?” I asked, my voice tight.
“You’re glowing,” Nan whispered.
I frowned. “Probably my pregnancy,” I said, glancing down at my rounded belly.
She rolled her eyes and grabbed my arm, lifting it up.
I followed her gaze—and my jaw dropped.
She was right.
I was glowing. Literally glowing.
“Oh my god,” I whispered hoarsely. “Did everyone see?”
Mortification crashed over me. I already knew the answer. If Nan saw it, then everyone did. It explained the dropped jaws—and why people were snapping pictures instead of filming.
“Uh… yeah. Just about everyone,” she admitted, biting her lower lip. “Gavin’s already working to get every video pulled. He’s locking down the pack so no one spreads misinformation. He put me in charge of getting you out of here.”
“Getting me out of here?” I asked sharply. “He wants me to run?”
“He just wants you to stay low for a few minutes,” she said, tugging me along.
Inside the packhouse, Irene was already pacing back and forth.
“Okay… this might be bad,” she said, turning toward me.
“What?” I demanded. “What’s going on?”
“You’re trending,” she said, holding up her phone. “There are already articles about you glowing. Now they think you’re some kind of magical being—or an alien. And they’re questioning even more whether you’re fit to be Luna.”
Her words shattered something in me.
This wasn’t fair. Why was this happening to me?
“Judy!”
I turned at the sound of my name and saw Selene rushing toward me, with Esme right behind her.
“I saw the headlines as soon as they came out,” Selene said, gripping my arms. “I don’t believe for a second that you cheated.”
“Did you see the newest one?” Irene asked, handing Selene her phone.
Selene scanned the screen, her brows knitting together.
“What does this mean?” she asked. “You were glowing?”
I looked down at myself and realized the light was gone. I released a shaky breath.
“It stopped,” Nan said, sounding just as stunned as I felt.
“I don’t understand,” Selene said, shaking her head. “What does this even mean? What’s happening to my daughter?”
“Her magic has been unlocked,” Esme said quietly as she stepped forward, her eyes wide.
I was still adjusting to the fact that she was walking and talking again.
“What do you mean, unlocked?” Selene asked, turning to her mother-in-law.
“I mean exactly that,” Esme replied, her gaze fixed on me. “Magic has a will of its own. It won’t tolerate a host who can’t stand on their own. It stays locked away until it senses worth—until it believes the person can become someone worthy of it.”
She paused, looking around at the small group gathered around me.
“In other words,” she continued, “something Judy said today made the magic inside her trust her. It might not have affected her much before—but now it will.”
Her eyes met mine.
“I hope you’re ready, Judy Montague. Your life is about to become much more complicated.”
