Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 876

I blinked, caught off guard by her bluntness.

“And who are you to talk?” I shot back, folding my arms. “You’ve been moping around all week, and you’re not even wearing makeup.”

She let out a short laugh. The smile on her face didn’t reach her eyes, and it made my chest tighten. I knew she was distracting herself, trying to keep her own thoughts in check—but I also knew she was living with a kind of pain she couldn’t escape. I hated that for her. I hated that I couldn’t fix it.

“Unlike you, I’ve already built a stable foundation for myself,” she said with a shrug. “I can afford to take a week—or more—off. Once you’re known and loved around the world, then come talk to me about wearing makeup every day.”

I exhaled slowly, my resolve cracking. I was glad to see pieces of her old self coming back, even if only for a moment.

“Okay,” I said. “So what do you suggest I do?”

“You let me help you. Fully,” she replied. “Let me be your life coach.”

“What?” I laughed. “A life coach? You?”

“Hey—just because I’m terrible at my own life doesn’t mean I’ll be terrible at yours,” she shot back. “Besides, this is something I know way too much about. Public image. Right now, this is a popularity contest. And trust me—it’s an easy fix if you follow the rules.”

I took a deep breath. “Alright. I’ll follow along.”

She smiled. “Perfect. First things first—we prove your innocence. Daddy might need to get these articles taken down.”

“I don’t want him to know about the protests,” I said, frowning. “He overheard Olivia talking about it, and I told him I had it handled. I didn’t want to make it a big deal. If he knew how far it’s gone, it would just upset him.”

“You won’t be able to hide it from him,” she said, raising an eyebrow. “It’s all over the news. And if we go to the packhouse tonight, he’ll see the protesters himself.”

“I’ll figure something out,” I said quietly. “I just want to keep this from him a little longer. Maybe until tonight. I want to tell him myself. I just want one last night of nothing—no stress, no magic. Just me and my mate.”

She studied me for a long moment before nodding. “Okay. But the next time you leave this villa, you’re not dressing like a commoner. You need to pay attention to how you present yourself. I’ll be working with you on that every morning.”

“Anyone ever tell you you’re bossy?” I teased.

She laughed. “All the time.” Then her expression sobered. “I need a project to distract myself,” she admitted. “This helps.”

I rested my hand on her shoulder and gave it a gentle squeeze. “We’ll figure this out, Irene. We’ll break your curse. You’ll be free from Chuck.”

Gavin walked in just then. When his eyes met mine, they softened immediately.

“I just told Matt we’re heading to the packhouse for dinner. He’s putting his shoes on,” he said, stepping closer and wrapping his arms around me. “Are you almost ready?”

I looped my arms around his neck. “Actually… I was wondering if we could go somewhere else for dinner.”

I caught the wide, surprised look in Irene’s eyes and hesitated. “Or—we could just stay here. Have Chester or Nan cook for us. We wouldn’t have to leave at all.”

“They’re both working at the packhouse tonight,” he said gently. “That’s why I suggested going there. I know how much you love their cooking.”

My chest warmed. “Oh,” I murmured. “I’m honestly not feeling that great. Maybe we should just—”

Before I could finish, Gavin’s phone rang. He picked it up from the table and glanced at the screen.

“It’s Erik,” he said, flicking a brief look at Irene. She stiffened beside me.

    “Hey, Erik,” he answered.

He listened for a moment, his eyes narrowing slightly.

“Okay. I’m on my way,” he said, then hung up.

He turned back to me. “Looks like there’s already a situation at the packhouse. I need to check it out before we decide where we’re going tonight.”
