Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 874
The ride home was quiet. Gavin kept one hand on the steering wheel and the other resting on my thigh, grounding me in a way nothing else could. I stared out the window, watching the trees blur past, trying to ignore the faint hum beneath my skin.
That strange sensation still lingered deep in my chest—like energy settling into my bones, stretching awake after a long sleep.
“You’re quiet,” Gavin said, glancing at me before turning his eyes back to the road.
I considered telling him about what I’d felt when I touched Meg—how it seemed like she’d tried to pull me into her mind, and how close I’d come to letting it happen. But Eliza was in the backseat, and this wasn’t something I wanted overheard. Not yet. Not until I understood it myself.
“It was just… hard,” I said instead. “Seeing her like that.”
It wasn’t a lie. This was a woman I would’ve believed was my mother—if I hadn’t discovered she’d switched me at birth. If I hadn’t learned I was a Blackwell, not a Churchill, I never would’ve questioned it.
I couldn’t explain the pull I felt toward her. But it was real. Strong. Almost like I’d always been meant to meet her—meant to know who she was—even if she wasn’t truly my mother.
But if that was the case… did that mean I was connected to Lila somehow too?
What did any of this even mean?
When we finally pulled into the driveway, relief washed over me. We were home—somewhere familiar, somewhere safe.
We dropped Eliza off at the packhouse before continuing on to the villa. Irene was the first to spot us as we walked through the front doors.
“Daddy?” she said, coming down the last step. Then her eyes landed on me. “Judy…” she breathed. “Did you find her?”
We both nodded. Gavin tightened his arm around my waist, pulling me closer.
“We did,” he said. “She’s being transferred to Eliza’s clinic so we can monitor her. She’s been in a coma for twenty-three years.”
“That’s a long time,” Irene whispered.
She looked exhausted—which wasn’t unusual for her lately. She wore jeans and a sweater, her hair loose and untouched by styling products. It was slightly frizzy, like she’d just rolled out of bed. She wore barely any makeup.
I knew Irene.
This wasn’t her.
She was depressed.
“I’ve got some calls to make,” Gavin said, pressing a kiss to the top of my head. “We can have dinner at the packhouse together this evening.”
“Sounds good,” I replied.
“I need to talk to Judy first,” Irene said, biting her lower lip.
Gavin nodded, kissed my cheek, and headed toward his study.
Something about the way Irene avoided my eyes and fidgeted with her fingers made my unease grow. She’d never looked this nervous before, and it made my stomach twist.
“Irene?” I prompted gently. “What is it?”
She finally looked up at me. The worry in her blue eyes went far deeper than exhaustion—this was something else entirely.
“There’s something you need to know,” she said, wrapping her arms around herself like she was holding herself together. “Olivia and her friends are protesting you at the packhouse. They don’t want you as our Luna—and they made that very clear today.”
My heart dropped, my breath catching in my chest.
“So… they went through with it,” I said quietly. “They’re actually protesting me.”
She nodded, slow and heavy. And in that moment, I knew there was more. Thankfully, I didn’t have to ask.
“They convinced even more people to join them,” she continued.
She reached into her sweater pocket, pulled out her phone, and began scrolling, her expression tight.
“How many more?” I asked, my eyes narrowing.
“A lot,” she said. Her fingers stopped moving, and she looked up at me. “Judy… they’re saying you cheated during the Gamma competition. It’s triggered a full investigation.”
“What?” I gasped, louder than I meant to.
“You could lose your Gamma win—and your reputation,” Irene said softly. “These girls are out for blood.”
