Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 873

The hospital room felt unnervingly quiet after Gavin and Eliza left. Alone with Megan Churchill, I couldn’t tear my eyes away from her face. Despite the gray streaks in her blonde curls, she looked as though she hadn’t aged at all.

I sat in the chair beside her bed, hands folded in my lap, even though they wouldn’t stop trembling. She looked nothing like I’d imagined. Honestly, I wasn’t even sure what I’d expected.

Maybe someone who looked more like a rogue.

But Meg looked young—almost fragile—and there was an innocence about her that made me want to protect her. Her face was smooth, unmarked. And even though her hair was greasy from years without proper care, it was still somehow beautiful.

    My eyes burned with tears.

What was I even doing here?

I hadn’t asked for any of this. I didn’t understand why it mattered so much. I didn’t want these magical abilities. I didn’t want to break bonds or curses. I’d been happy with my life before all of this.

I wanted to focus on my upcoming wedding, the Luna ceremony, and my baby. I wanted my family to be my priority. Maybe one day, I’d focus on my career. But this magic—this responsibility—it wasn’t something I’d ever signed up for.

My phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out and saw my mom’s picture on the screen. My chest tightened. She had no idea about any of this, and the guilt hit hard. I considered answering, but I wasn’t sure I could pretend everything was fine.

She deserved to hear the truth in person.

I let the call go to voicemail and typed out a message instead.

Me: I’ll come over later. I need to talk to you both.

After hitting send, I turned my phone off and shoved it back into my pocket. I looked at Meg again, her body still and silent, and wondered what kind of existence she’d had trapped in a coma. Was her world nothing but darkness? Did she dream? Did she ever think about her daughter—or even remember she had one?

Meg’s hand lay limp on the bed.

Without really thinking, I reached out.

The instant my fingers brushed her skin, the air in the room shifted.

There was no spectacle—no sparks, no wind, no glowing light. Just a click. Like something ancient and patient had finally found the right key.

    I felt a pull—subtle but insistent—and my stomach twisted.

I yanked my hand back, heart pounding.

    What the hell was that?

It felt like she’d tried to pull me into her mind.

Before I could dwell on it, the door opened and Gavin and Eliza returned with the signed release form.

“Okay, we’re good to go,” Gavin said, wrapping an arm around my shoulders and pulling me close. “I’ll call Taylor and have him bring Megan to Eliza’s clinic.”

He took one look at my face and frowned.

    “Are you okay?”

I nodded, not sure how to explain what had just happened. That conversation would have to wait.

“Yeah,” I said, leaning into him. “I just want to go home.”

He nodded like he understood—and I was sure he did.

Gavin gave my shoulder a gentle squeeze before stepping away to make the call. Eliza took one last careful look at Meg, her expression thoughtful but calm, then turned to me with a small smile.

“It’s going to be okay,” she said softly. “I’ll keep her safe and well cared for while the Alpha figures out how to break the curse.”

“Do we know who could’ve cast something like this?” I asked.

“Someone who wanted to see the Churchills fall,” Eliza said slowly, “but at the same time, wanted to protect her.”

    I blinked.

    “Protect her?”

    She nodded, her gaze distant.

“Whoever cast this curse made it so the Churchills couldn’t touch her. If they did, they’d die,” she explained. “Whoever did this must have loved her deeply.”

My chest tightened as I looked back at Meg.

Someone out there had been protecting her all this time.

I couldn’t help but wonder who.

The door opened, and Gavin returned.

    “Ready?” he asked.

    I nodded.

“Yeah,” I said, joining him at the doorway.

As we walked out of the room, I glanced back one last time. Meg looked exactly the same—peaceful, unaware, impossibly young and beautiful.

But beneath that stillness, I sensed something else.

    A quiet, simmering power.

And I couldn’t shake the fear of what secrets it might hold.
