Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 867
“Straight to the point, I see. That’s what I always liked about you, Miss Montague,” Levi laughed.
My gut twisted, but I kept my expression neutral.
“I’m not here for small talk,” I said. “I’m here to find out about Meg Churchill. I know she’s still alive, but she’s been declared missing. I also know you’ve visited her at the hospital before.”
His smile slowly faded. That alone confirmed I was right.
Levi leaned back in his chair, the chains around his wrists clinking softly against the metal table. He studied me like a chessboard, as if deciding which piece he was willing to sacrifice.
“You’re much sharper than I remember,” he murmured.
“Don’t change the subject,” I said through clenched teeth. I had no interest in chatting with the man who had used and betrayed me, and I wanted this conversation over as quickly as possible.
“Alright, fine,” Levi said, rolling his eyes. “You’re no fun. Yes, I went to see Meg at the hospital a few times, for different reasons. Periodically, I have to sign a consent form to keep her on life support. Without my updated signature, they’d pull the plug.”
“Meg is on life support?” I asked, disbelief creeping into my voice. “What happened to her?”
“She’d been on the run for a long time. Just when she was about to be caught, she got into a car accident,” he replied casually. “Nearly killed herself. My family put her on life support to preserve her body.”
My heart sank. A car accident? Had it happened right before she gave Lila away?
“Why would you keep her there all these years and not tell anyone?” I asked. “Were you hiding her?”
“She was a disgrace to our family,” Levi said, rolling his eyes. “She never followed the rules or played her part. She made plenty of enemies—people who would’ve been happy to see her dead.”
“Then why keep her alive?” I demanded. “Why not just pull the plug if she was such a disgrace?”
None of it made sense. If they hated her that much, why keep her breathing?
“Because of the curse,” Levi muttered. “If it weren’t for the curse, she would’ve been dead a long time ago.”
“What curse?”
“You ask a lot of questions,” he said, a slow smirk spreading across his lips. “I think it’s time you do something for me if you want to hear more.”
I pressed my lips into a thin line and narrowed my eyes at him.
“I’m not doing anything for you,” I said flatly.
He laughed. “Then I guess we’re done here.”
“You’re really not going to tell me about this curse?” I asked.
“Not unless you give me something in return,” he said, tilting his head.
“What do you want?”
The bitterness in my voice was impossible to hide. The glint of amusement in his eyes told me he was enjoying this far too much. I crossed my arms over my chest, thoroughly done with his games. I almost called Gavin back into the room to force Levi to talk—but I wasn’t sure I could trust Levi to tell the truth under pressure.
As terrible as he was, Levi was still oddly honorable. When he made a deal, he kept it. If you struck an agreement with Levi Churchill, he would always hold up his end—no matter what.
“I want you to break the curse,” he said, his eyes narrowing.
I frowned. “You want me to break a curse I don’t even know about?”
“Don’t be daft,” he muttered. “I’ll tell you about the curse. But in exchange, you have to break it.”
“You’ll have to give me time,” I said. “I’m not even sure how to use these magic powers.”
I stared down at my hands, frowning. I wiggled my fingers like I expected something to happen. That familiar buzzing sensation lingered at my fingertips. The magic was there—I could feel it. My senses were sharper, my wolf stronger—but I had no idea how to control any of it.
“I’m sure you’ll figure it out,” Levi said. “I need your word that you’ll try—do whatever you can to break this curse.”
Our eyes locked. “I need to be able to trust you.”
After a moment, I nodded. “You have my word.”
I wasn’t sure how he knew I meant it, but a look of satisfaction crossed his face as he nodded back.
“Good,” he said, exhaling slowly. “This curse was placed on my family a long time ago. When Megan and her mother joined our family, it was around the same time we started having problems with the Blackwell family. It was right before they built their own empire and left Alpha territory.”
“They refused to follow certain rules. And having two powerful Alpha Lycans in one territory is never a good idea. Even though one of them wanted nothing to do with pack politics, he was powerful enough to become a chairman and claim his own territory. He was offered the position.”
“But he declined.”
