Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 865
“You’re not coming.”
Gavin’s words were final as he grabbed a shirt from his closet. I scrambled out of bed, my heart pounding, fists clenched. My wolf let out a low growl in our shared mind, bristling at our mate’s refusal to even discuss it. He wasn’t looking at me—which meant he wasn’t going to listen.
“What do you mean I’m not going?” I snapped, folding my arms across my chest as I glared at him.
“Exactly what I said. It’s dangerous. You’re not coming with me to see Levi.”
The words hit like a slap. Like he didn’t trust me.
“He’s behind bars,” I shot back, eyes locked on him as he moved around the room. “What can he possibly do to me?”
“It’s not a risk I’m willing to take,” he said, finally stopping to face me. “Not when it comes to you.”
My heart softened at the sincerity in his voice, the raw worry in his eyes—as if his entire world was standing right in front of him.
“Gavin, Levi likes to play games,” I said firmly. “He won’t give you information about me—or anything related to me. He might talk to me, but only if I play along. I’m going to be Luna of one of the biggest packs in the world, to the strongest Alpha in the world. I need to handle things like this. And I need my mate to trust me.”
He stepped closer until only inches separated us. He was still shirtless, mid-dressing. I swallowed hard, my gaze lingering on his chest longer than I meant to. No matter how many times I saw him like this, it never got old.
My wolf practically purred. Gavin smirked, clearly reading me.
“You get distracted so easily,” he said, cupping my face with his large, warm hands. My heart skipped, heat spreading from my scalp to my toes.
He wasn’t wrong—but I couldn’t let this be one of those moments. As much as it hurt, I shook my head and gently forced his hands away.
“I’m serious, Gavin,” I said, proud my voice didn’t shake. “I’m already under so much pressure to be the perfect Luna and—”
“Wait. What?” His brows lifted. “What are you talking about?”
Tears welled despite my effort to stop them. I didn’t want to tell him about Olivia—about what she’d said, and how others had agreed. That I’d never make a good Luna because I wasn’t trained. That I’d ruin the territory. That Gavin deserved someone better. Olivia was already gathering support to protest me.
“Hey,” Gavin said softly, wiping a tear from my cheek with his thumb. “What’s wrong, baby?”
“It’s nothing,” I lied. It didn’t even sound convincing to me. “I just want to prove—to the pack, to you, to everyone—that I can be a good Luna. That things like this don’t scare me away. I’d never put our baby at risk. If I didn’t think I’d be protected in prison, I wouldn’t go. But I will be. And I might be able to get answers from Levi.”
Gavin sighed, and I saw his resolve waver. I stepped closer, closing the last bit of space, wrapping my arms around his neck.
“Please,” I whispered. “Let me do this.”
He lowered himself until his lips brushed mine, sending my heart racing.
“You don’t need to prove anything to anyone,” he said softly. “Least of all to me. I already believe in you. I love you. That won’t ever change.”
My cheeks burned at his words.
He pressed his forehead to mine and exhaled.
“You can come,” he finally said. “But you are not to be left alone with him.”
Relief bloomed in my chest. I smiled up at him.
“I wouldn’t dream of it,” I said—then closed the distance and claimed his lips.
The prison smelled of stone, iron, and regret.
I felt it the moment Gavin and I stepped inside—a heavy, suffocating pressure that tightened my chest and made my wolf curl inward.
