Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 860
Daisy Baldwin stood at the front gates as if she belonged there. She tucked her short blond curls behind her ear and lifted her chin, just like she always did. Still, I noticed the tension in her shoulders—and the way her gaze kept darting around, as though she expected to be discovered at any second.
“Daisy is here?” Irene asked, her hands dusted with cheese.
I realized everyone was staring at me, eyes wide.
“She is,” Adam confirmed, nodding toward the tablet that clearly showed Daisy waiting at the front entrance.
“We need to tell my father,” Irene said, already reaching for her phone.
“Wait,” I blurted out before she could dial. I turned to her, holding up my hand to stop her. A sharp, sizzling crackle sparked at my fingertips, and I quickly pulled my hand back.
Magic surged through me—angry, restless—and it made my stomach twist. I needed to learn how to control it before it controlled me.
Irene must have seen it too, because her face went pale.
I cleared my throat and stepped back.
“Let me see what she wants,” I said, turning to Adam. “I’ll go out and talk to her.”
“That’s not a good idea,” Irene said, shaking her head. “My father would be furious if he found out.”
“Well, Gavin isn’t here,” I replied, raising an eyebrow. “If he were, I’d have him handle it. But if she wants to talk, then we’ll talk.”
“I’ll go with you,” Erik said, pushing back from the table.
I nodded, and together we headed for the front door.
“Are you sure this is a good idea?” Irene called after us.
“Yeah, Irene might be right. Daisy is bad news,” Nan added.
“If I’m going to be the Silver Crescent Pack’s Luna, I can’t hide from a confrontation when one shows up,” I said over my shoulder.
“You can’t fight!” Irene shouted. “You’re pregnant!”
“I’ll make sure she doesn’t,” Erik assured her as we stepped outside.
The front courtyard was bathed in late-afternoon sunlight. Guards stood at attention, hands near their weapons, eyes fixed on the iron gate.
And there she was.
Daisy Baldwin.
The closer I got, the more I realized she no longer looked like the confident puppet she’d been when she manipulated everyone and stole the stone from the Landrys. She looked drained—her cheeks hollow, her lips pale, dark shadows under her eyes like she hadn’t slept in days.
When she spotted me, she straightened sharply, like a wire pulled too tight. She wrapped her arms around herself as if holding herself together. That was when I noticed her lip—swollen, with a cut at the corner.
My eyes narrowed as I moved closer to the gate. Just before I reached the latch, Erik gently caught my arm.
“I wouldn’t go out there if I were you,” he said quietly, his gaze never leaving Daisy. “The Alpha wouldn’t want you anywhere near her.”
I knew he was right. Gavin would be furious when he found out I was even entertaining Daisy’s presence. Still, I couldn’t deny my curiosity.
I folded my arms across my chest.
“Okay,” I said. “I’m here. What do you want, Daisy?”
Her eyes flicked briefly to Erik before settling back on me. She drew her bottom lip between her teeth, and for a moment, she looked almost… nervous.
“I need your help,” she finally said, her voice tight.
“With what?” I asked, the irritation clear in my tone.
“I know you owe me nothing—”
“I’m glad you know that,” I cut in, arching a brow. “You shouldn’t be here, Daisy. After what you did—”
“I stole from a family who stole from another family,” she snapped, pressing her lips into a hard line. “I did what I had to do.”
“Why did you have to do it?”
“Because of my mate,” she blurted out. “He made me. He told me he’d end the pain he put me through if I did what he said. He knew my sister was once married to Gavin Landry, and he wanted me to use that.”
My ears rang. I stared at her, my mouth falling open.
“I’m sorry… your what?”
If she’d had a mate this whole time, then why had she been after Gavin?
Her cheeks flushed, as if she’d heard the question without me saying it.
“My mate,” she said, lowering her gaze. “He’s not my fated mate. But he marked me years ago and kept me around without much love.”
I blinked.
“You have a chosen mate?”
She nodded, briefly meeting my eyes.
“I do,” she said hesitantly. “It’s a long story… and it wasn’t really my choice.”
My heart lurched.
“You were forced into a mating bond?”
She nodded once.
“I was told the only way to break it is through the host of magic,” she continued, locking eyes with me. “For a long time, I thought that was Lita. She agreed to help me if I helped her figure out how to unlock her magic. By then, she already had the Moon Gem back. She couldn’t figure out how to draw the magic out of it and into herself, where she believed it belonged.”
She swallowed.
“I was the first—and only—person she told that she couldn’t get the magic out of the gem. To everyone else, she lied and said she was too tired to practice. But she could still feel the magic inside her.”
