Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 859
Irene was clearly trying not to look at Erik, but his gaze kept drifting back to her. I caught the faint flush creeping up his cheeks every time their eyes almost met. Watching them like this made my chest ache. I wanted to master this magic—really master it—so I could help Irene. So I could break her bond with Chuck and give her the chance to finally see Erik for what he was: her true mate.
She deserved that. And I hated that I couldn’t do anything for her yet.
“You’re Gavin’s fated mate,” Erik said, clearing his throat as he finally forced his eyes away from Irene’s profile. “Which means you were created to be a Luna. The Goddess doesn’t make mistakes.”
“He’s right,” Nan said, nodding approvingly at Erik. “She doesn’t. She chose you to be Gavin’s mate, the Luna of his pack, the mother of his children. You’ve got this—and you’re not alone.”
I smiled, warmth spreading through my chest.
“Thanks, guys,” I said, resting my head against Nan’s shoulder.
Irene started to stand.
“I’m going to head upstairs—”
“Nope,” Nan cut in, grabbing her arm and tugging her back down onto the couch. “Not happening. Come on, Irene. We never get to hang out anymore. Don’t you miss us?”
Irene bit her lip, her face turning even redder.
“Of course I do, but—”
“No excuses,” Nan said cheerfully. “What we need is food. I vote we eat something amazing. This kitchen is fully stocked, and I’m willing to make whatever you want. Let’s make a day of it—eat, gossip, just like old times… with the added bonus of Erik, our knight in shining armor.”
She flashed him a wide grin. Erik chuckled under his breath, running a hand through his hair.
“I guess I can hang out,” he said with a casual shrug.
He glanced at Irene. This time, she actually met his eyes. I could practically see the questions swirling there.
“Yeah,” she said softly. “Me too.”
I smiled, relieved. Seeing them both set their issues aside—even for a little while—felt like a small victory.
“Perfect,” Nan announced, jumping to her feet. “I don’t have to be home anytime soon—Chester’s with Em—so you’re all stuck with me. Kitchen. Now. Let’s figure out what we’re making.”
She held out her hand, and I took it without hesitation, letting her pull me up.
“Do we have pizza rolls?” Erik asked, making me laugh.
He really could be such a boy sometimes.
“Do I look like someone who would disrespect a kitchen by making pizza rolls?” Nan said, wrinkling her nose.
Erik shrugged.
“Just a suggestion,” he muttered, though the familiar smirk was already forming.
“How about nachos?” I asked, suddenly hit with the strongest craving for Mexican food.
Nan’s smile softened as she looked at me.
“Anything you want, Luna,” she teased, nudging me as we walked arm in arm into the kitchen.
Nan immediately slipped into her element, barking orders like a drill sergeant while we did our best to keep up. Erik grated cheese like it had personally offended him. Irene rinsed beans and opened cans. I set out plates and silverware.
As we settled into a rhythm, Nan wrapped an arm around my shoulders.
“You doing okay?” she asked quietly.
I nodded, even though the nervous flutter in my stomach hadn’t gone away.
“I’m just scared,” I admitted. “I want everything to be okay. I want everyone to be happy. Irene isn’t happy—and it’s because of Chuck. I want to break that bond so she can move on with her life.”
Nan nodded, and we both glanced toward Irene. She was clearly trying to keep her distance, while Erik looked like he was barely holding himself together. It was painful to watch.
“Miss Judy,” a voice called from the kitchen doorway.
I turned to see Adam standing there, a tablet in his hands, his brows drawn tight as he stared at the screen.
“There’s something you need to see.”
My heart jumped into my throat.
“What is it?”
He stepped closer and tilted the tablet toward me. The footage was from the new security system Gavin had installed at the villa’s entrance.
I narrowed my eyes—and sucked in a sharp breath.
“Is that…?” I started.
“Yes,” Adam said grimly. “That’s Daisy Baldwin. And she’s demanding to see you.”
