Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 849
Leaves rustled as the air shifted at the forest’s edge. Two figures stepped out of the shadows.
I recognized Daisy Baldwin immediately—her eyes widened as she moved forward. Lila stood beside her, clutching something wrapped in cloth. A faint glow bled through the fabric.
Daisy’s breath caught when she saw it.
“So… it’s true,” she whispered.
Lila shook her head, tears gathering in her eyes. “No. It can’t be. I’m the heiress. That gem belongs to me.”
Daisy curled her lip. “Clearly not,” she hissed. “I told you something was wrong. I told you the gem doesn’t respond to you the way it should. It burns you, for crying out loud. That’s not normal. It doesn’t want your blood—it wants hers.” Her gaze flicked to Judy. “It glowed more tonight than it ever did at the manor. You saw it then, and you see it now. It wants her. She’s the heiress.”
“How is that even possible?” Lila whispered, shaking her head. “It shouldn’t be.”
“But it is,” Daisy said, folding her arms. “Levi Churchill once told me that things aren’t always what they seem. I didn’t understand it then. I do now.”
“Enough,” I said, stepping closer to Judy, my presence closing around her like a shield. “You wanted to speak with her. She’s here. Say what you need to say, and then we’re leaving.”
Daisy’s eyes narrowed before locking onto Judy.
“Your blood will activate the gem,” she said quietly. “And then we all get what we want.” Her voice softened. “Please… you have to help me.”
“Help you?” Judy asked, finally finding her voice. “Help you with what?”
Tears filled Daisy’s eyes. For the first time, she looked fragile.
“I need to break my ties with someone,” she said, her voice shaking as she looked away. “I need to be free, or I won’t survive much longer. I can’t keep living like this. I can’t.”
“No,” Lila snapped, turning away. “It’s mine. She can’t have it. You didn’t tell me that was why we were coming here. You said we were going to kill her so her powers would transfer to me. You said whoever killed her would gain her magic—and then I’d finally be the true heiress.”
Daisy rolled her eyes. “Did you really believe that?” she shot back. “That’s not how it works. You don’t get her magic by killing her. I only needed you to bring the gem here—so I could return it to its rightful owner.”
“What about the rogues?” I asked, folding my arms. “You sent them after Judy.”
“I sent them to bring her,” Daisy admitted. “I didn’t think she’d come willingly.”
“They could have hurt her,” I said through clenched teeth.
“And face a death wish?” Daisy snapped. “They knew the risk.”
The gem began to glow brighter. I felt Judy shift beside me, like something was pulling at her—hypnotic, irresistible. She fought it, but I could feel the pull all the same.
“There’s more,” I said, glaring at Daisy. “What else do you want?”
“Freedom,” Daisy said hoarsely. “That’s all. I’ve been tied to Noah Blackwell for far too long—doing his bidding, being his side piece, bound to him in more ways than I can count. He has that rare gift—the ability to mate with multiple women—and every time I think about it, it makes me want to die. I can’t live like this anymore. I won’t.”
“You selfish bitch!” Lila screamed, lunging at Daisy. She raised her hand to strike—
—and then screamed in pain instead.
The gem slipped from her grasp and hit the ground. Her hands were red and blistered, burned by its touch.
I barely had time to react.
The gem shot toward Judy, impossibly fast. I lunged for it, reaching out—but I was too late.
It slammed into her shoulder blade.
Judy screamed.
She collapsed, blood blooming through her shirt, and my own scream tore out of me as I caught her falling body.
The world tilted.
Her weight went slack in my arms—
and then everything went black.
