Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 847
She felt small against me—soft, trembling.
“I spoke to one of them,” I murmured into her hair, kissing the top of her head. “They’re here for you.”
Her entire body went rigid. She looked up at me, worry flooding her eyes.
“Me?” she asked. “Why? Why would they come here for me?”
“Whoever tipped them off knows exactly where you live,” I said, pulling her closer, like I was afraid she might slip out of my arms if I loosened my hold.
Her heartbeat raced beneath my palm.
I tightened my embrace.
“Don’t be scared,” I said firmly, threading my fingers through her dark hair. “They’re not getting anywhere near you. I swear on my life—I won’t let them touch you.”
“What about Irene and Matt?” she asked, panic flashing across her face. “Are they okay? Did you check on them?”
“They weren’t after them,” I reassured her. “And yes—I sent Erik. Our family is safe.”
She exhaled, but her body stayed tense.
I didn’t blame her. With the baby inside her, this kind of fear wasn’t something she should be carrying. Inside me, rage kept building—dark, violent, relentless. Someone had targeted my mate. My pregnant mate. Someone thought they could use rogues to take her from me.
I pressed my lips to her forehead.
“I’m going to find out who did this,” I said quietly. “And when I do, they won’t walk away.”
She swallowed hard. “Gavin—”
“You’re safe,” I cut in, my voice steady. “You’re not leaving my sight. Not tonight. Not tomorrow. Not until I know exactly what we’re dealing with.”
She didn’t argue, and that worried me.
I looked down at her flushed cheeks, brushing my thumb along her skin.
“I’ve got you,” I whispered. “No one is taking you from me.”
She let out a slow breath, then rose onto her toes and brushed her lips against mine.
“I love you,” she whispered.
I deepened the kiss, sliding my tongue over her lower lip and drawing it into my mouth. A soft moan slipped from her, and it went straight through me. I knew this wasn’t the time—there were still rogues to deal with, answers to find—but holding her like this felt like everything I needed.
I pulled her closer, kissing her deeper, needing the closeness.
A knock at the door made me groan.
She smiled against my lips as I pulled back. Neither of us wanted to part, but I already knew who it was. If Taylor was interrupting right now, it meant something serious.
I kissed the top of her head and brushed my nose against hers.
“I need to get that,” I murmured.
She nodded, understanding. She kissed me once more before stepping back.
I turned and opened the door. Taylor stood there, battered but standing. Whatever shape he was in, I knew the rogues had it worse.
“What happened?” I asked.
He glanced past me at Judy and visibly relaxed.
“She’s okay,” he said, then looked back at me. “I checked on Irene and Matt too. They’re fine. Erik’s with them.”
Relief washed through me. I’d planned to check myself, but if Erik was there, I knew they were safe.
“Good,” I said, gripping his shoulder. I could tell he wasn’t finished. “What else?”
He exhaled.
“Daisy Baldwin is here,” he said, the words hitting hard. “She’s working with the rogues—and she wants to speak to Judy. Lila’s with her.”
