Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 843
“I did…” she replied, then turned her gaze to Gavin. “And I also know your father stole something that was never meant to be taken. Your family cost mine dearly.”
“My father’s crimes aren’t mine to carry,” Gavin shot back, his eyes narrowing. “And how do we even know you’re telling the truth? You expect us to blindly believe that Judy is actually a Blackwell?”
Cora didn’t even look at him. Her attention stayed on me.
“Don’t you feel it?” she asked softly. “That sense of familiarity when you’re around them? The strange dreams, perhaps?”
In that moment, I knew she already understood everything—every emotion, every dream.
“Blood calls to blood,” I whispered without thinking.
Gavin turned to me sharply, a deep frown forming.
Cora leaned back against the couch, her lips pressing into a thin line.
“Indeed,” she murmured. “Do you believe me?”
I nodded without hesitation.
“I do.”
Then I turned to Gavin, who was watching me closely. “I believe her. She’s telling the truth.”
His expression softened. He reached up, tucking a loose strand of hair behind my ear, his fingers lingering against my cheek.
“Then that means the Moon Gem actually belongs to you,” he said quietly, his eyes searching my face as if he were seeing me for the first time.
My heart skipped. The realization hit hard.
He was right. If Cora was telling the truth—and deep down, I knew she was—then the Moon Gem was mine. The magic inside it was mine, too. I stared down at my hands, half-expecting them to spark with power.
Gavin took my hands and gave them a gentle squeeze.
“That’s all the information I have for you,” Cora said after a long pause. “There’s nothing more I can tell you.”
I nodded and stood. Gavin rose with me, his hand settling protectively at my lower back, and I instinctively leaned into him.
“Thank you for speaking with me,” I said, extending my hand. “It meant a lot.”
She nodded, worrying her bottom lip.
“I love my brother,” she whispered. “One day, I’ll return to him. But for now, it’s better if I stay away.”
“Better for who?” I asked, folding my arms. “You—or your mother?”
“Both,” she answered without hesitation. “You should go. I have a lot to do today.”
I nodded.
“Then we won’t keep you,” I said, offering a small smile.
Not long after, we said our final goodbyes. Once we reached Gavin’s car, neither of us spoke. My mind spun with everything I’d learned. I didn’t even know where to begin processing it—and I could only imagine what Gavin must be thinking.
I glanced at him. His jaw was tight, his knuckles flexing against the steering wheel, his focus locked on the road. He was lost in thought, too. This was far more than he’d ever signed up for, and a heavy knot settled in my stomach.
I placed my hands over the swell of my belly, feeling the faint flutter of my baby’s movements. My heart felt like stone in my chest.
“Are you upset?” I finally asked, breaking the silence.
He glanced at me, then back at the road.
“Why would I be upset?”
“You’ve been quiet.”
He exhaled, his jaw loosening slightly.
“I’m just… confused. I wasn’t expecting any of this,” he admitted. “But I’m not upset. I’m worried. This means the Churchill family has been looking for you. And the fact that they almost found you…”
His voice trailed off. I reached out and touched his arm.
“But they didn’t,” I said softly. “I’m with you. I’m safe.”
He nodded slowly, still processing.
“It makes me wonder if Levi knew all along,” he murmured. “He’s always been cryptic about who you are. Now I’m more curious than ever.”
“Me too,” I admitted.
“This also means the Moon Gem is in the wrong hands,” he continued. “It’s burning Lila because it knows she isn’t its rightful owner. It belongs to you.”
“Which means,” I said quietly, “I’m the one who can break whatever hold Chuck has over Irene…”
The weight of that realization crashed down on me all at once, heavy and unforgiving, settling deep into my bones.
