Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 838
“I don’t tell you this to hurt you,” Cora continued, reading his expression instantly. “I’m telling you so you understand why I didn’t say anything before. But now… now I see it clearly. She knew I would need this more than anyone else ever could. I can transfer your daughter’s magic and seal it inside this gem. It’ll keep her safe. When she’s older, you can give it back to her.”
Zachary stared at the gem for a long, weighted moment before his head slowly bobbed in agreement.
“Okay… if you think it’s possible—”
“I know it’s possible,” Cora cut in, lifting a hand. “I’ve been training. I’m strong enough to handle this now.”
Relief softened Zachary’s entire body. For the first time all night, he looked like he could breathe again.
A scream ripped through the hallway, snapping them both back to reality. Selene’s voice. Raw. Pain-filled.
Zachary went pale.
He shot into the room behind the doctor and two nurses. Cora followed quickly, her pulse hammering at her ribs.
“She’s crowning,” the doctor said sharply. “Prepare to assist. The baby’s coming.”
One nurse scrambled to assist the doctor; the other steadied Selene, adjusting her position. Zachary looked seconds away from collapsing as he clutched his mate’s trembling hands.
Cora knew she needed to do something—ease Selene’s pain, steady Zachary—but panic was tightening around her throat too.
“I’ll get you some water,” Cora called over the chaos. Zachary’s head snapped toward her, eyes wide.
“You’re leaving??”
She shook her head quickly.
“I’ll be right back. And Grandma Esme is on her way—I’ll probably need her help for the transfer.”
Esme had taught Cora everything she knew about magic. If anyone could steady her, guide her, strengthen her spell—it was Esme.
Zachary nodded, though fear still clung to his expression.
Cora slipped out of the room and hurried down the hall, heart pounding so hard it hurt. Her breath came in short, fast bursts. She’d put on a confident front for Zachary, but the truth was the opposite.
She needed water. She needed a moment.
And she desperately needed her grandmother.
As she rounded the corner, she collided with someone. Hard.
Cora stumbled back—then froze.
That face.
Those piercing blue eyes.
Ivy.
Her breath caught. “Ivy?” she managed. “W–what are you doing here?”
Ivy Churchill folded her arms across her perfectly sculpted chest, narrowing her icy gaze.
“My daughter is giving birth,” she said coolly. “And you?”
Cora swallowed hard. “My brother’s mate is in labor.”
Heat rushed to her cheeks. Of all the people she never wanted to see again… Ivy was at the top of the list.
Once, they had been friends.
Until one party.
One night.
One betrayal.
After that, everything shattered.
Ivy’s lips curled with a spark of something sharp—anticipation, maybe even satisfaction.
“What an interesting coincidence,” she murmured. “So… has the prophecy finally come true? Is your brother’s third child the all-powerful little girl?”
Cora stiffened.
Of course Ivy had been keeping tabs. She had been there the day Esme spoke that prophecy—when they were still children, when Cora still trusted her.
Before she learned who Ivy really was.
Ivy hadn’t been born into the Churchill family. If she had, Cora’s family would’ve never trusted her in the first place. She had married into them—after her first husband divorced her.
And that divorce…
That betrayal…
Was the very reason she and Cora stopped being friends.
