Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 834
His lips met mine, sending a rush of heat through my entire body. My face flushed instantly, my pulse tripping over itself. No matter how many times he kissed me, my body reacted like it was all brand new. And honestly… I hoped that feeling never faded.
When he finally pulled back, there was a spark in his eyes I couldn’t quite name. It made a smile tug at my lips before I could stop it.
“We’ll leave after breakfast,” he said, and my heart nearly stopped.
“So it’s official… we’re leaving today.”
It wasn’t really a question—and I wasn’t sure if I was talking to him or just trying to convince myself.
He frowned, eyes searching my face.
“Isn’t that what you wanted? To meet Coraline Blackwell and get answers?”
I nodded immediately, but my nerves didn’t care.
“Yes,” I breathed out. “It’s just… a lot.”
He reached out, brushing a loose strand of hair away from my face.
“I’ll be with you the entire time. I’m not leaving your side.”
The sound of bacon sizzling drew his attention back to the stove. He moved around the kitchen with effortless ease, and I stood there watching him—my heart beating faster, fuller. I didn’t know what I’d done to deserve this man, but I felt like the luckiest woman alive to be marrying Gavin Landry.
I couldn’t wipe the stupid smile off my face if I tried.
He plated the food and passed a couple of plates to me. I carried them to the table while he brought the rest. Right on cue, Irene and Matt rushed into the kitchen as if they could smell breakfast from a mile away.
“It smells so good in here,” Matt said, bouncing on his toes.
I motioned for him to sit. Gavin set a pot of coffee and a jug of orange juice on the table. Matt grabbed the juice immediately, and Irene settled into the chair beside him.
“Good morning,” I said to her.
She managed a small smile. Her eyes were bloodshot, and she was still wearing one of Chuck’s sweatshirts. My heart squeezed.
“Morning,” she murmured, pouring herself coffee.
“Did you sleep okay?” I asked gently.
She lifted one shoulder.
“I slept fine.”
But the dark circles under her eyes said otherwise.
I didn’t push. She’d talk when she was ready.
“Are we doing more wedding planning today?” she asked quietly.
I shook my head.
“I figured we’d take a break for the weekend. Nan’s restaurant is slammed, and she’ll be busy. Plus, Gavin and I are going away until tomorrow. Remember? You promised you’d watch Matt.”
She nodded.
“Yes, I remember. I just wasn’t sure if there’d still be time to plan. I really like working on your wedding.”
“Well… you could still find something wedding-related to do today. Just pretend you’re the wedding planner. I mean, you pretty much are.”
Her eyes brightened instantly.
“Okay,” she whispered. “Thank you.”
I smiled and dug into my food. Embarrassingly fast. But hey—I was eating for two.
I took a long sip of orange juice, wishing it were coffee. We finished breakfast in relative silence. By the time we were done, the villa staff had arrived. The kitchen team looked surprised to see we’d cooked our own meal, but they jumped right into cleaning up, and Gavin thanked them.
Matt and Irene headed off to their own activities, and Gavin turned to me, determination written all over his face.
“Are you ready to go?”
I drew in a deep breath and exhaled slowly before nodding.
“I’m ready.”
This was it.
We were finally going to meet the woman who might give us the answers we’d been searching for. All I could do now was hope she was willing to give them.
Today, we were about to find out exactly what kind of woman—or witch—Coraline Blackwell really was.
