Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 833
I woke up to the smell of coffee drifting up from the kitchen downstairs. I glanced at the clock on the nightstand—it was early. Way too early for the staff to be here prepping breakfast. And since Gavin wasn’t in bed beside me, I knew exactly who was making all that noise in the kitchen.
For a moment, I just lay there staring at the ceiling, replaying the conversation we’d had a couple nights ago. It was finally Saturday. Today we were going after Coraline Blackwell, and Gavin promised we’d leave this morning.
At least last night had been dreamless… though I never fell into a deep enough sleep to really rest. Neither did Gavin. I felt him tossing, turning, and worrying all night. I could feel him even now—tense, restless, carrying a storm behind his ribs.
I exhaled slowly and pushed the blankets aside. The scent of bacon and coffee drifted down the hallway, making my stomach growl. The baby and I were absolutely starving this morning.
I barely made it a few steps before almost being run over by Matt as he bolted out of his room. He skidded to a halt, eyes wide.
“Sorry,” he blurted. “I really have to go to the bathroom.”
He was doing a frantic little wiggle-dance, and I couldn’t help smiling. For all his maturity, he was still just a little boy. I ruffled his hair gently.
“Go on, then.”
He didn’t wait another second. He darted around me and sprinted down the hall toward the nearest bathroom. A laugh escaped me as I shook my head.
Irene had already agreed to watch Matt for the weekend so Gavin and I could take our road trip. I was grateful she was here, even though her heart clearly wasn’t. She was putting on a brave face for everyone, but I could see right through it. After spending an entire week locked in her room avoiding everyone, she’d finally started coming out again. The last couple of days, she’d stayed close to Nan and me, helping with wedding preparations.
It seemed to be good for her—something she enjoyed, something she could lose herself in. Her attention to detail was perfect, and it made me genuinely happy to have her by my side.
She even came down for dinner last night. That had been a surprise. But the dark circles under her eyes were impossible to miss, and every now and then, I caught the faint sheen of tears when she thought nobody was looking.
She was hurting. Badly. And I was determined to make sure she never had to feel that kind of pain again.
Erik had kept his distance, knowing his presence would just make things worse right now. I’d told him I would figure out how to break Chuck’s hold on her, but he’d been impatiently texting me every day asking for updates. All I could do was tell him to give me more time.
When I reached the kitchen, I paused in the doorway, taking in the sight in front of me. Gavin stood at the stove in a fitted black shirt, flipping eggs like he hadn’t spent most of the night awake. His hair was still damp from a shower, and he looked unfairly good.
My mate was honestly the hottest man on the planet. My heart gave a little skip. I swear I fall for him a bit more every time I look at him. And the way he instantly sensed me watching him—turning with that slow smirk—yeah, I wasn’t even pretending to be sorry.
He was going to be my husband, after all.
Husband.
I still wasn’t over it. I was going to be Gavin’s wife. His Luna. Heat crept up my cheeks at the thought.
“Good morning,” he said, voice low and warm enough to wrap around me.
“Morning,” I breathed.
He lifted an arm, inviting me over, and I walked straight into him like I had no choice. His arm slid around my waist, pulling me into his solid chest, and I melted against him. I fit him perfectly—like I was made for him.
