Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 832
“I don’t like the idea of meeting this woman. We don’t know what she’s capable of,” Gavin said. “I’m not willing to take that risk.”
“Not even for your own daughter?” I asked.
I could barely believe him. This was his daughter we were talking about. I knew arguing while this hormonal wasn’t smart, but I couldn’t stop myself. I was hurt, frustrated… and desperate for answers.
“It’s too dangerous,” he said, his voice softening. “I need to protect my family.”
“These dreams are getting worse,” I blurted before I could stop myself.
His brow creased. “What are you talking about?”
“The dreams I’ve been having,” I reminded him. “They’re more frequent… longer… darker.”
“Okay?” he said slowly. “What does that have to do with any of this?”
“Cora might know why I’m having them,” I told him. “I can’t explain it, but I feel like everything is connected. I know it’s a long shot, and maybe we’ll walk away with even more questions, but my gut says I need to talk to her.”
I stepped in closer and placed my hand on his chest, feeling his heartbeat steady beneath my palm.
“I need you to trust me. I would never put our baby… our family… in danger. Please, Gavin.”
He stared at me for what felt like forever. Just when I thought he was going to refuse again, he exhaled and dragged a hand through his hair.
“You’re not going alone,” he finally said, frustration tightening his voice. “I’m coming with you. And so is Erik. You aren’t to be alone with that woman for even a second. Understood?”
I nodded a little too fast. “Yes, I understand.”
“I still don’t like this,” he admitted. “But if you think it’s necessary… then I trust you.”
I wrapped my arms around him and kissed him deeply, letting the relief sink into the kiss.
“I do think it’s necessary,” I murmured against his lips. “You’ll see.”
He held me tighter, teeth grazing my bottom lip.
“When do we leave?” I asked softly, looking up at him through my lashes.
“I have a few things to handle tomorrow… but we could go this weekend.”
“This weekend is perfect.” I kissed him again. “Thank you,” I whispered.
He pulled back enough to meet my eyes. “Do you really think she’ll be able to give us answers?”
I didn’t hesitate. “Yes. I believe Coraline will tell us what we need to know.”
“What questions do you want answered?” he asked as he sat on the bed and pulled me into his lap, settling me against him.
“Something was after my birth mom,” I said quietly. “Something—or someone—terrifying. I want to know who it was.”
He tensed immediately. His jaw flexed, and I looked up at him.
“And you think Coraline knows who it was?” he asked.
I shrugged. “Selene said Cora was wise… that she knew things. It’s worth asking.”
He went silent, staring off like he was turning something over in his mind. When he didn’t speak, I frowned and reached up to smooth the crease between his brows.
“What is it? You look lost in thought.”
“Zachary is afraid of someone,” Gavin said, making my heart stop for a beat. “Just like your mother was. He won’t tell us who’s after him, but he’s hoping this merger will protect his family. Whoever is hunting him apparently wouldn’t dare cross the Eandrys. He thinks if he aligns with me, they’ll back off the Blackwells.”
“And you think whoever is after the Blackwells… might be the same person who was after my mom?” I whispered, my eyes widening.
“I think it’s worth finding out.”
