Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 831
There was one woman in this world who knew exactly what happened twenty-three years ago in that hospital. One woman who had been directly involved—and who probably held all the answers I desperately needed. One woman who vanished afterward because of what she’d done.
Coraline Blackwell.
Zachary’s sister.
I first heard her name at the Blackwell manor, when Selene casually mentioned that Zachary had lost contact with her years ago. Cora, as they called her, was born without a wolf. She was mostly witch, like their mother. Zachary, meanwhile, carried a trace of witch blood but was primarily wolf, with none of a witch’s natural abilities.
I needed the truth about what happened the day I was born—the same day Lila was born. I needed to know how to help Irene, who was falling apart because of a siren bond she couldn’t escape. I needed to find out who the Moon Gem rightfully belonged to, because only the true owner—or maybe Cora herself—could break the connection tying her to Chuck.
It was worth a shot.
Thankfully, Erik is a brilliant hacker and didn’t hesitate. The second I called, he was ready to do whatever it took to free Irene from Chuck’s pull. He slipped into Zachary’s database with far less effort than he expected. Neither of us believed Zachary was truly clueless about Cora’s location. She was his little sister, after all. Even if they hadn’t spoken in years, that didn’t mean he wasn’t quietly keeping tabs on her.
So we dug. And we were right.
A couple of hours later, Erik sent me an address—Cora’s last known whereabouts. A few hours away from the Silver Crescent Pack.
When I told Gavin I’d found Coraline Blackwell, he stared at me with open disbelief and something close to anger. The silence between us was so heavy it felt suffocating.
“What do you mean you found Coraline Blackwell?” he finally asked, cutting through the tension.
“I mean… I found her,” I said, chewing at my lip. “Well, Erik found her. Because I asked him to.”
“You’re talking about Zachary’s sister?” he asked.
I nodded, my cheeks warming as he looked at me like I’d completely lost my mind.
“I know it’s a long shot,” I said quietly, “but I was hoping she could give us some answers.”
“Answers to what?” His voice sharpened, louder now—angry.
“She was there that night, Gavin. The night I was born… the night Lila was born. She’s the one who put the magic into the Moon Gem. Magic that reacts to Lila with nothing but anger. That gem isn’t hers—and I think Cora knows why.”
“What exactly do you hope to gain from this?” Gavin asked, narrowing his eyes. “Why does it matter if the gem doesn’t respond to Lila the way she thought it would? It has nothing to do with you.”
His words hit like a slap. I stepped back instinctively, as if he’d shoved me. My wolf bristled, unsettled by his tone—and by the implication that any of this was irrelevant.
“Because whoever the gem truly belongs to might be strong enough to break the hold Chuck has on your daughter,” I said through clenched teeth, blinking away tears.
Pregnancy hormones. That’s what I blamed them on.
“She’s not happy, Gavin. She’s miserable. And I hate seeing her like this. Don’t you?”
“Of course I do. But—”
“But nothing,” I said, cutting him off. “This is Irene we’re talking about. We can’t just sit back. We have to figure out how to break that bond.”
“Distance will break it,” Gavin insisted. “That’s how it works with sirens. She needs distance—no contact. Nothing. Eventually it’ll fade.”
“But it’s hurting her,” I said, voice cracking. “And I can’t stand watching it. It’s hurting both her and Erik. He’s her fated mate, and he can’t claim her because of this. It’s not fair to either of them. Irene deserves her happily ever after. She deserves real love. She’s been hurt enough. It’s time it stops.”
I drew a shaky breath.
“And I have a feeling Cora knows more than any of us realize.”
