Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 829

“Just sign along the dotted line,” Taylor instructed. “Once that’s done, the contract is complete, and you two are officially in business together.”

I hesitated for a moment before finally signing my name. The instant my signature hit the page, Zachary Blackwell clapped his hands. I looked up at him—sitting casually across my desk, one leg crossed over the other, a bright smile spreading across his face as he glanced between Taylor and me.

“So, that’s a done deal then,” he said, loud and proud. He extended his hand, and I shook it—because that’s what you do in business.

Still, the whole time, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I’d just sold my soul to the devil. It felt like I’d betrayed my father’s memory by partnering with someone he’d called an enemy. Yet somehow, the more I learned, the more it seemed like my father had been the true enemy all along.

“We should celebrate. Drinks on me tonight,” Zachary said. “It’ll be good to get out, maybe get to know the territory a little—especially since I’ll be pledging myself to you at some point. We’ll need to talk about the ceremony and the announcement.”

“Let’s make one thing clear,” Taylor said sharply, planting his palms on the desk as he leaned toward Zachary. “Just because you’re now business partners with Alpha Gavin doesn’t make you any kind of Alpha here. Your only involvement is the Landry Foundation business. And according to the contract, you stay focused on the Blackwell portion. Pack matters are none of your concern, and you will not present yourself as an authority figure to anyone in this pack.”

Zachary lifted his hands like he was fending off a wild animal.

“I never said I wanted to be an Alpha to anyone here,” he said defensively. “I already explained what I want and what my people gain from this.”

“And your people…” Taylor asked, brow raised, “have they accepted bowing to Gavin as their Alpha?”

“Some aren’t happy. A few threatened to leave—and I won’t stop them if that’s what they choose. But some are for it; they’re loyal to me and know this is the only way I can protect my family.”

“And you still won’t tell me who’s after you,” I said, narrowing my eyes, “so I can protect mine?”

He’d been saying for days that someone was after him. And now, with the Moon Gem’s aura making it impossible for his enemies to stay hidden, it was only a matter of time before they came for him. They’d stayed in the shadows for years because of the gem, and now they were growing desperate.

I understood that kind of fear—and it was why I couldn’t walk away.

“They wouldn’t dare touch your family,” Zachary said, shaking his head. “They’d be stupid to go against the Landrys. That’s why this merger matters. I’m hoping that if we’re partners, they’ll back off and leave my family alone.”

“It would help if you told me the truth,” I said, lifting one brow. “If people are after you, we can deal with them.”

    “Many have tried. Most failed.”

“You’re being cryptic,” I said, crossing my arms.

“Sometimes it’s necessary,” he murmured. “So… we’ll celebrate tonight?”

“Another night,” I said, standing. “Tonight, I’d rather go home and spend time with my family.”

Zachary looked disappointed, but he nodded. “Understood. It was good to see you, Alpha. Beta. We’ll be in touch.”

Taylor and I nodded as he left the office. The moment the door shut, Taylor exhaled and dragged a hand through his hair.

“I don’t trust him,” he muttered.

“Neither do I. But you know what they say—keep your friends close and your enemies closer.”

Taylor raised an eyebrow and turned fully toward me. “You consider him an enemy?”

I let out a slow breath and shook my head. “No. But he’s not a friend either. I need you to look into something for me—Judy’s birth mom.”

Taylor blinked at the sudden shift. “I… don’t understand.”

“It’s a long story. The short version is that she was an eighteen-year-old who ran away from home. Her family was after her, and she was so terrified she handed her newborn daughter to strangers in a hospital. No one knows who her family was… or why she was running from them.”
