Rising from the Ashes (Andrew and Lauren) Chapter 3378
Andrew shook his head lightly, brushing soot and dust from the shoulder of his coat. His expression remained calm despite the roaring celebration around them.
“Save the gratitude,” he said evenly. “Tonight was only the beginning.”
The fires from the distant Allied camp were still visible beyond the cliffs, staining the night sky red. From Cliffside Gate, the destruction looked like a burning sea on the horizon.
Nyx folded her arms and leaned against the stone wall of the gate, her blade still stained dark.
“They’ll be in chaos for days,” she said. “Supply depots destroyed, command chain shattered, and their morale gutted.”
Shiloh gave a small nod.
“And Marshal Cassata’s pride took a hit. That alone is worth something.”
Cormac laughed loudly.
“A hit? I’d say we punched the undefeated marshal straight in the teeth tonight!”
Several officers nearby burst into laughter.
But Andrew didn’t smile.
He turned his eyes toward the burning horizon again.
“Don’t underestimate him,” Andrew said quietly.
The laughter slowly faded.
“That man didn’t earn the title of undefeated by accident. Tonight we embarrassed him… but next time, he won’t be careless.”
Asher crossed his arms.
“So you think he’ll strike back soon?”
Andrew nodded once.
“He has to.”
Jakob climbed onto a supply crate nearby and shouted to the soldiers celebrating around the gate.
“Listen up! Tonight we showed the Three Empires what Holtrien fighters are made of!”
A thunderous cheer erupted.
Weapons were raised into the air.
Helmets slammed against shields.
“Holtrien! Holtrien! Holtrien!”
The sound echoed across the cliffs like rolling thunder.
But inside the command tower overlooking the gate, the mood was far more serious.
A war map covered the large table in the center of the room.
Andrew, Nyx, Shiloh, Cormac, and Asher gathered around it as the celebration continued outside.
Andrew pointed toward the enemy encampment.
“Tonight we destroyed roughly thirty percent of their supplies.”
Cormac whistled.
“That much?”
Andrew nodded.
“But that still leaves them with overwhelming numbers. Once they reorganize, they’ll march on Cliffside Gate again.”
Nyx tapped a location further east on the map.
“Unless we force them to split their forces.”
Shiloh looked at her.
“You’re thinking about the mountain pass.”
Nyx’s lips curved slightly.
“If we cut that route, their entire supply line collapses.”
Asher frowned.
“That would mean going deep behind enemy territory.”
Andrew finally smiled faintly.
“That’s exactly what we’ll do.”
The room fell silent.
Outside, soldiers were still cheering about the victory.
Inside, a far more dangerous plan was already taking shape.
Far away in the ruined Allied camp, Azrael Cassata stood in the middle of the wreckage.
His armor was scorched.
The red lenses of his visor glowed like burning coals.
Around him, officers knelt in fear.
“Marshal…” one of them said weakly. “The damage reports are still coming in—”
Azrael slammed the butt of his spear into the ground.
The earth cracked.
“Enough.”
His voice was cold and murderous.
“Send orders to every division.”
The officers stiffened.
Azrael slowly looked toward Cliffside Gate in the distance.
“Three days.”
His voice was like a death sentence.
“In three days, we march.”
“And when we reach Cliffside Gate…”
The blue flames behind his armor ignited again with a violent roar.
“Not one soul inside will leave alive.”
The war had only just begun.
