Rising from the Ashes (Andrew and Lauren) Chapter 3352
Jakob chose his words with care.
“Patriarch Atticus, here’s the situation. I came to discuss Holtrien joining forces against our enemies. The Cavendish royal family has always been one of Holtrien’s pillars. General Turman and the heads of the Eight Ancient Sects all hope you’ll put the greater good first.”
Atticus didn’t respond immediately.
Instead, his gaze swept across the senior members of the Cavendish family seated throughout the grand hall. Nearly two hundred people filled the chamber.
Both the Hearst and Cavendish royal families had deep foundations. Their younger generations were sharp, talented, and rising fast. Simply put, the two generations beneath Atticus were thriving—and momentum like that only pointed upward.
This was the mark of a top-tier family destined to flourish again.
By contrast, although the Lloyd royal family currently stood at the height of prestige, their younger generations hadn’t developed as strongly as the other two. But the deeper reason wasn’t a lack of strength.
It was history.
During the last ancient war between the Eastern and Western continents, the Lloyd ancestor Valerius had fallen in the Outlands. At that time, Holtrien had nearly been dominated by the Lloyd family alone. But their brutal clashes with the Blood Queen and the full-scale war against the Dark Clans had come at a devastating cost.
An entire generation had been nearly wiped out.
Meanwhile, the Hearst and Cavendish families had not suffered losses on that scale.
One of the Cavendish martial gods spoke in a low, steady voice.
“Defending our homeland is our duty. But since Philip has chosen to stand with Andrew and the Lloyd royal family, then we’ll chart our own path. We won’t walk the same road as them.”
Jakob smiled politely. “Sir, that’s completely reasonable. I didn’t come here to demand that the Cavendish family align with the military faction. As long as you send more troops and contribute to Holtrien’s defense, that will be enough.”
Atticus finally spoke, his tone calm but firm.
“Mr. Miller, the Divine Dragon Order doesn’t need to remind us of our responsibilities. My family has never lagged behind in times of crisis. However, the humiliation Andrew and the Lloyd royal family brought upon us must be repaid. Otherwise, we will not participate in the battle at Azure Gate.”
His eyes hardened.
“Furthermore, Andrew has detained one of our martial gods. Does he truly believe he’s already the supreme ruler of Holtrien?”
A flicker of amusement passed through Jakob’s eyes.
“Patriarch Atticus, perhaps you’re unaware—but Andrew is already on his way here. He should arrive any moment. How your family chooses to handle this—through negotiation or otherwise—is entirely up to you.”
Atticus narrowed his eyes.
“Andrew dares to walk straight into my territory alone? Either he’s too young to know better… or he’s skilled enough that he genuinely doesn’t see us as a threat. Either way, I’ll find out myself.”
Jakob inclined his head respectfully. “Patriarch Atticus, your courage and sense of honor are deeply admirable. That said, I would strongly suggest keeping this civil. There’s no need to let things spiral.”
Atticus replied coldly, “That depends on Andrew’s attitude.”
Privately, Jakob felt satisfied. He had expected the Cavendish family to resist Andrew. If he could persuade them to commit to the war effort, then when he returned to the Divine Dragon Order, it would be clear he had played a decisive role. The benefits would naturally follow.
At that moment, a warrior rushed into the hall and reported urgently,
“Patriarch Atticus, Mr. Asher has returned.”
Atticus’s expression shifted in surprise.
“Asher is back? Good. Where is he?”
