Rising from the Ashes (Andrew and Lauren) Chapter 3347
Andrew spoke evenly. “Up to this point, the Cavendish royal family still hasn’t made their position clear. We need to send someone strong to the northeast to negotiate with them. The generals stationed there won’t be enough to pressure them into making a decision.”
Jeffery of the Hearst royal family said in a low voice, “That’s exactly my concern. The Cavendish family doesn’t respond to just anyone. Whoever we send must have enough standing to actually get through to them. Otherwise, it’ll be a wasted trip.”
Philip nodded and looked around the room. “Alright. That makes sense. Elder Jeffery, who do you suggest?”
Jeffery smiled faintly. “If you ask me, my first choice is Mr. Lloyd.”
Philip gave a satisfied nod. Andrew had clearly earned the Hearst family’s trust. Slowly but surely, he was becoming the central pillar of Holtrien.
Just then, a cold snort cut through the room.
A young man stood up. He had a sharp nose, a lean face, and an air of effortless arrogance.
“My name is Jakob Miller,” he said coolly. “I represent the Divine Dragon Order. Our leader appointed me to oversee all Divine Dragon Order operations here at Azure Gate. And I formally object to this proposal.”
Jeffery looked at him and nodded. “Mr. Miller, since you represent the Divine Dragon Order, your objection carries weight. I’d like to hear your reasoning.”
Philip frowned slightly. “Jakob, you may represent the Divine Dragon Order here, but as far as I know, Elio Anderson has already issued his directive. Andrew is to be reinstated into the Divine Dragon Order.”
Jakob stood, his polished leather shoes glinting under the lights as he walked slowly toward Andrew.
“The Divine Dragon Order,” he said calmly, “isn’t a place you walk in and out of at your convenience. Since Andrew chose to leave, returning won’t be so simple.”
“I respect Mr. Anderson. But within the Divine Dragon Order, he’s not the only one with authority. Whether Andrew returns is still up for discussion. At the very least, right now, his rank is below mine. Whatever I say, he follows.”
The room went quiet.
Philip’s expression darkened. The tension was unmistakable.
The Divine Dragon Order was the most mysterious and elite force in all of Holtrien. It was filled with hidden heavyweights. Even Philip treated its three leaders with respect—and Elio was only one of them.
The other two leaders had yet to make their stance public. Jakob, it seemed, spoke on their behalf. And the fact that they had placed him in charge at Azure Gate meant his authority couldn’t simply be ignored.
Philip asked carefully, “Then who do you propose we send to negotiate with the Cavendish royal family?”
Jakob let out a faint laugh. “Looking around this room, there aren’t many suitable candidates. But if we’re talking about the best choice, it’s obviously me.”
“I have personal ties with the Cavendish royal family. Cormac Cavendish is a good friend of mine. I’m the most appropriate person for this task.”
Philip and Jeffery exchanged a subtle look.
If the negotiations succeeded, it would be a major contribution. That was precisely why they had wanted Andrew to take the mission.
Now Jakob had stepped in and claimed it outright—and they had no clean way to refuse him.
At that moment, Andrew simply shrugged.
“If Jakob believes he’s the right man for the job, then let him go,” he said casually. “We’re all fighting for Holtrien. It doesn’t matter who makes the trip.”
