Rising from the Ashes (Andrew and Lauren) Chapter 3219
Guillermo’s face twisted violently.
“If you have nothing useful to say, shut your mouth,” he snarled. “Compromise? Have you ever seen a moving train stop on command? Have you ever seen me bow to anyone?”
Jose paused, thinking it through with exaggerated seriousness.
“Mr. Vazquez, I’m not trying to be disrespectful, but… yes. A moving train can stop. Tear up the tracks. Blow up the engine.”
He tilted his head slightly.
“And you have bowed before—Reginald. Didn’t that still end with you being outplayed? Honestly, bowing to his son wouldn’t be that embarrassing. They’re cut from the same cloth. Neither one is someone you can push around.”
The room went deathly still.
Guillermo moved without warning.
Smack.
The sound cracked sharply through the air as his palm struck Jose’s face.
“Get out!” Guillermo roared, pointing at the door. “Get the hell out—right now!”
It was the first time Jose—the ever-loose-tongued, sarcastic jester—had ever been struck by Guillermo.
He stood frozen, hand pressed to his burning cheek, mind blank.
After a long moment, he lowered his head and walked out quietly.
At the doorway, he muttered under his breath, “Mr. Vazquez… you’re getting more and more unstable. The slap doesn’t matter. If it makes you feel better, fine. But from where I stand… you’re losing control.”
He hesitated.
“If you—the mighty tree—are about to fall, give me a heads-up. I’d like time to run.”
Guillermo didn’t respond.
But the expression on his face was murderous.
—
Lorenzo broke into a cold sweat.
He understood far more than Jose did.
In recent weeks, Guillermo had been working day and night, exhausting himself trying to find a way to suppress Andrew. Every failure tightened the noose around his pride and authority. The pressure had become suffocating.
For Jose to joke at a time like this—assuming Guillermo would laugh it off like before—was reckless.
Moments ago, Lorenzo had seen it clearly.
For a brief second, Jose’s insolence had triggered Guillermo’s killing intent.
That was the terrifying part.
Jose thought Guillermo was merely angry.
He was wrong.
Guillermo was like a king.
In his golden years, he could afford amusement. The petty squabbles below him were nothing more than entertainment. Everything was under his control.
But now—
The king felt the tremor of threat beneath his throne.
He sensed his reign might be ending.
And a cornered king, stripped of certainty and swollen with rage, could easily turn on his own people.
After a long silence, Guillermo finally spoke, his voice hoarse.
“Lorenzo. Contact Thunder Sect.”
Lorenzo stiffened. “Yes, Mr. Vazquez.”
“Tell them I can’t hold this down alone anymore. If they still sit above it all—acting untouchable, leaving everything to me—then they’d better think again.”
His eyes were bloodshot.
“If I go down… they go down with me.”
A chill ran down Lorenzo’s spine.
“Yes, Mr. Vazquez,” he replied quickly.
