Rising from the Ashes (Andrew and Lauren) Chapter 3204
Philip’s expression didn’t change as he said evenly, “Mr. Owens Senior, Ms. Owens, I am truly sorry for what has happened. But as I stated earlier, the killer’s identity cannot be disclosed for now. You may return and inform Guillermo. If he is dissatisfied, he is welcome to come to me directly.”
Lorenzo’s anger blazed. “General Turman, are you trying to shield the murderer? Even if you stay silent now, do you really think the Owens family won’t uncover the truth later? Skylar was killed inside Martial Tower. There were countless witnesses.”
Philip gave a faint shrug.
“Frankly, you don’t even need to investigate to know who did it. The matter is quite straightforward. But by all means, investigate as you wish—I won’t interfere. I simply won’t speak.”
He paused, then added flatly, “The reason is simple. Our military owes that man. He killed someone within our territory, breaking the rules, and yet I must pretend I saw nothing. That’s all.”
Lorenzo’s teeth ground together. “General Turman, as the head of the military, how can you say something like that?”
Philip’s eyes narrowed, a chill settling over the room.
“Mr. Owens Senior, you are fully aware that I am the head of the military,” he said quietly. “So who gave you the audacity to address me in that tone?”
The sudden surge of killing intent radiating from him struck Lorenzo like a physical blow. His face drained of color. He immediately lowered his head, voice trembling.
“General, I meant no offense. But I beg you to understand our urgency. The Owens family—and Mr. Vazquez—will not let this matter rest.”
Philip snorted. “Whether Guillermo lets it rest is his concern, not mine. All I can say is that the Nieves family’s young master was simply unlucky. The one who killed him rendered a great service to our military.”
His voice turned cold. “You will find nothing here.”
Lorenzo’s face twisted with fury. He seized Mikayla’s arm. “Mikayla, we’re leaving!”
“But Skylar’s body—” she began anxiously.
“Let it rot!” Lorenzo roared. “The Nieves family can retrieve the corpse themselves. And when they do, I doubt they’ll restrain themselves from demanding the murderer pay in blood. If no one here will give us justice, then Mr. Vazquez will speak for the Owens family!”
Skylar had been his prized future son-in-law—the key to elevating the Owens family into the ranks of nobility.
Now he was dead.
Yet Lorenzo’s resentment was not for the loss of Skylar’s life. What gnawed at him was the collapse of the powerful alliance Skylar represented.
Once outside the military headquarters, Mikayla instantly dropped her tearful façade. The sobbing and sniffles had been nothing more than an act.
Her voice turned icy. “Dad, I’ll notify the Nieves family. I’m practically their daughter-in-law already. If I’m the one to report Skylar’s death, they’ll spare no effort to come to Chetvine and handle this personally.”
Lorenzo was about to respond when several cars screeched to a halt at the entrance.
Doors flew open. A group of men stepped out swiftly.
At the front stood Guillermo.
Lorenzo’s eyes lit up. He hurried forward. “Mr. Vazquez!”
Guillermo waved him off, his expression grim. “I already know. Skylar was killed by Andrew in Martial Tower.”
Lorenzo and Mikayla froze, stunned into silence.
With a faint snarl, Guillermo continued, “The Owens family will remain silent for now. Everything can wait until I’ve spoken with Philip.”
Without sparing them another glance, he strode past, his entourage following close behind as he entered the military headquarters.
