Rising from the Ashes (Andrew and Lauren) Chapter 3192
Brielle suddenly turned her head, her vision blurred by tears as she stared at Andrew in disbelief. Then she rushed forward and threw herself into his arms.
“You finally came back!” she cried. “Andrew, I was so worried about you these past two years. If something had really happened to you… I would’ve felt guilty for the rest of my life.”
Feeling the warm, soft body of the voluptuous beauty pressed against him, Andrew felt awkward and momentarily at a loss for words. When her chest brushed firmly against his, the sensation made the moment even more overwhelming.
This mature woman truly carried an intimidating presence.
In the end, seeing how hard Brielle was crying, Andrew could only lift a hand and gently pat her back. “Madam Baxter, I’m back. I’m fine,” he said softly. “You’ve worked very hard managing the Medicine God’s Covenant for me these past two years.”
Brielle sobbed quietly. “It’s nothing. I just wanted to make sure I did a good job with what you entrusted to me. Thankfully, I didn’t let you down. Andrew, if it weren’t for you saving him back then, Eric probably would have—”
Andrew interrupted her gently. “Madam Baxter, we both know I was Guillermo and Julius’s target. Eric doesn’t owe me anything. Besides, I consider him my brother. If his life were ever in danger, I would never stand by and do nothing.”
Only then did Brielle release him.
Her veil had been dampened by tears, faintly revealing her features beneath. A wave of shyness washed over her, and she quickly lowered her head to wipe her eyes. After steadying herself, she looked up at Andrew—and froze.
In just two years, his aura had changed completely.
He now carried an added layer of mature, masculine composure. Compared to the youthful, sharp, and brilliant man from two years ago, he possessed a quiet gravity that was deeply alluring—especially to mature women.
Back then, Andrew had faced everything with directness and fierce momentum, like an ambitious young man charging forward. Brielle had admired that version of him, but subconsciously, she had still viewed him as a junior—almost like her son, Eric.
But now, after enduring countless trials in the Outlands and securing his position as the King of the Wastelands, what had changed was not only his martial strength. It was the intangible presence he radiated.
Put simply, it carried far greater lethal appeal to women like her.
Recalling how she had impulsively embraced him just moments ago—how she had even grabbed his hand and pulled him into this room—Brielle’s emotions became tangled.
They were alone. A man and a woman.
And she was a mother, someone who should have been dignified, restrained, and composed.
Yet in front of Andrew, she found she could not control herself at all.
Her cheeks warmed, her heart fluttering uncontrollably. Shame mixed with confusion, leaving her unsure how to speak. Inwardly, she scolded herself.
Brielle… you’ve remained celibate all these years, steady as stone, never swayed. So why is it that the moment this man returns safely, you lose all restraint?
Just now, you were so careless… so intimate. If he misunderstands and thinks I harbor improper thoughts… wouldn’t that be disastrous?
Lost in her chaotic thoughts, Brielle stole a glance at Andrew. Seeing that he hadn’t noticed anything amiss, she finally let out a silent sigh of relief.
She walked over and poured him a cup of tea. With a faintly reproachful tone, she said, “Why didn’t you say anything about coming back?”
“Is this how a director behaves?”
Andrew accepted the teacup, took a sip, and smiled. “I only arrived in Chetvine yesterday. Last night, the Lloyd family held a banquet, so I really didn’t have the time to come over.”
Then he added teasingly, “Madam Baxter, you’re not going to blame me, are you?”
Brielle rolled her eyes, a playful smile tugging at her lips. “I’m just your employee now—your subordinate. How would I dare blame you?”
