Rising from the Ashes (Andrew and Lauren) Chapter 3165
Nyx shook her head, her expression tinged with sadness. “I don’t understand how Arya could end up like this. She was the Cathedral’s archangel—someone with a brilliant future ahead of her. And yet she still fell. Andrew, could there be some hidden reason? Maybe she was set up… or harmed by the Vampire Queen?”
Andrew considered it briefly, then shook his head. “Unlikely. An angel’s fall can be triggered through temptation, but that only works on lower-ranking angels.
“Someone like Arya—the Cathedral’s strongest angel, the Pope’s right hand—couldn’t have been seduced unless a crack had already formed in her radiant heart. Only then could the darkness seep in.”
Nyx hesitated before asking, “Then… did something break inside her during her last battles?”
Andrew replied coldly, “That’s her own problem. I’ve always said Arya was too pure. So pure that she couldn’t tell gray from black. Fighting what she labeled as ‘evil’ to the bitter end was nothing but foolishness.
“When she was strong, she hunted the darkness to near extinction.
“So when the darkness rose again, retaliation was inevitable. The deaths of two archangels, followed by attacks from two Dark Progenitors—those blows must have shattered her. That’s how a flaw formed in her so-called pure angelic heart.
“And with the Vampire Queen’s overwhelming presence, even the slightest corruption was enough to seal her fall.”
Without wasting another moment, Andrew and Nyx rushed back to Throne City.
Once they arrived, Andrew immediately sought out Franz and instructed him to contact the Holtrien military high command at once. He was to inform them that the Dark Queen had awakened.
Franz’s expression turned grave as he nodded. “Understood. I’ll handle it immediately. But, Andrew… a few friends of yours just arrived in Throne City. They’re waiting for you.”
Andrew frowned. “Friends from Holtrien?”
Franz smiled. “That’s right. You should go see them.”
Still puzzled, Andrew made his way quickly to the Throne Hall.
Inside, several people sat waiting, their expressions uneasy. The moment Andrew saw them, his face lit up with genuine joy.
“Luna. Valerie. What are you doing here?”
Both women stood at once, excitement and happiness written all over their faces.
Luna restrained herself, remaining where she was.
Valerie, however, couldn’t hold back. Her eyes welled with tears as she rushed toward Andrew.
“Honey, I’ve missed you so much! I finally get to see you again. You have no idea how hard things have been for us out in the Outlands. But seeing you now—everything feels worth it.”
Feeling her soft body in his arms, Andrew held her gently and patted her back. “It’s alright now, Valerie. As long as you’re here with me, you’re safe.”
Valerie wiped her tears and leaned in, wanting to kiss him—but then she glanced back and saw Luna watching her intently.
“Alright,” she said with a slightly embarrassed smile. “I shouldn’t be too greedy. Luna hasn’t even had her chance to catch up yet.”
She released Andrew and stepped aside, though her gaze never left him.
Standing at the entrance to the Throne Hall, Nyx watched the scene unfold. First, she frowned. Then discomfort flickered across her face. Her lips pressed together, and finally, her teeth clenched.
Luna stepped forward, her gaze deep and filled with restrained affection.
“Andrew,” she said softly. “It’s been a long time.”
Andrew paused, clearly caught off guard. “What did you just call me?”
Luna blushed, though she tried to keep her composure. “Andrew. Is that… not right?”
Andrew let out a cold smirk. “I suggest you call me what you’re supposed to.”
He narrowed his eyes. “Unless you’ve already forgotten who I am now?”
