Two days later, Nyx returned to Throne City. She looked exhausted and shook her head. “I still couldn’t find Arya. Andrew, I’m worried something may have happened to her.”

Andrew wanted to tell her to stop worrying, but remembering that Nyx and Arya had once been close friends, he held his tongue.

“Nyx,” Andrew said, “before we head back to Holtrien, I want to make a trip to the Deadlands. Do you want to come with me?”

Nyx hesitated briefly, then smiled. “Wherever you go, I’ll follow. That’s what we agreed on, isn’t it?”

Andrew nodded. “Yeah, we did. But let’s wait a couple more days. First, I want to help Petra and Juno break through to the martial god level.”

With Andrew’s earlier assistance, Petra and Juno had already begun pushing toward that realm. The recent battles had further tempered their strength, and both of them could feel they were close. Andrew could see it as well—they had reached the critical point. So he decided to step in.

Only someone with his omni-constitution could so easily help others break through to the martial god level. If it were any other martial god, the process would have been extremely difficult.

Petra’s constitution was domineering and resilient, while Juno carried a colder, darker aura. Fortunately, Andrew could accommodate both types of energy. He chose the most brutal and direct approach, channeling his power into them and forcefully helping them shatter the heavenly barrier.

Juno broke through first, without any complications. Petra, however, needed two additional days. Though he had trained his body to its limits, his overall talent was not as exceptional as Juno’s, and his progress was slower. After Andrew went to great lengths to help him succeed, Petra’s gratitude overflowed.

By now, Dragonfang revolved entirely around Andrew. No one harbored second thoughts. His authority was absolute, and his orders were followed without question.

Knox had already begun preparing to assume the position of chieftain of the Highland Tribe. Tobiah could have remained in power for a few more years, but he preferred to pass the role to his son sooner rather than later. Andrew had no intention of interfering; the tribe’s internal affairs were theirs alone to decide. He and Nyx simply offered their congratulations in advance.

Knox grinned broadly. “Actually, I’ve got another piece of good news. I’m getting married!”

Nyx was pleasantly surprised and congratulated him sincerely. “Really? Knox, that’s wonderful!”

With a smile, Andrew asked, “Is the woman you’re marrying from the Highland Tribe, or from somewhere else?”

Knox laughed. “She’s from our own tribe. I actually prefer women from outside—they’re not like our tribal women, who are big and burly, not gentle at all. But I don’t really have a choice. My father won’t let me marry an outsider. Besides, I guess I’m fine with it. She’s not bad…” He paused, then added, “Most importantly, she’s Mr. Fernsby’s daughter. You know what that means, right?”

Andrew smiled knowingly. “Of course I do. Mr. Fernsby is one of the most respected and powerful figures in the Highland Tribe. Right now, aside from your father, he holds the highest standing. Marrying his daughter secures the support of another major leader.”

“Exactly,” Knox said. “Being a chieftain isn’t easy. At least this gives me some insurance.”

Seeing his roguish grin, Nyx snorted. “What insurance? If you don’t like her, don’t marry her. But if you do, you’d better take responsibility. If I find out you’re fooling around, I won’t let you off easily.”

Knox hurriedly protested, “Come on, Nyx, is that really what you think of me? I’m a romantic, okay? Don’t believe me? Marry me and see for yourself.”
