Rising from the Ashes (Andrew and Lauren) Chapter 3154

Iridessa didn’t rush to strike. Instead, she slowly removed her disguise—first her hair, then her top, then her pants.

She stood barefoot on the balcony and took a deep breath, feeling a strange sense of satisfaction with herself.

Just then, a faint bolt of lightning streaked across the sky. For a brief instant, her reflection appeared in the glass. Even in that split second, her golden hair, blue eyes, and doll-like, delicate features were unmistakable.

    She looked exactly like Nyx.

The real Nyx, however, had already fallen into a deep sleep, lost in sweet satisfaction.

Meanwhile, Iridessa—disguised as Nyx—stared at the man through the glass. At last, she bent low and slipped into the bedroom.

She removed the dagger from her mouth and placed it outside the door.

Perfect covert arts allowed no room for error. If she carried a blade, killing intent would inevitably take root in her heart. And the moment that intent surfaced, the powerful man before her would sense it.

If that happened, she would fail.

Her bare feet touched the floor, silent as a cat’s. Iridessa quickened her steps, passing through the bedroom and into the living room.

Andrew stood there, having poured himself a glass of water. He drank while gazing at the endless curtain of rain outside.

Setting the glass down, he turned and smiled gently. “Why’d you get up? Hm… Nyx, your heartbeat’s a little fast.”

Iridessa flashed a bashful smile, pursed her lips, and replied softly, “I can’t sleep. You’re such a bad man… You made me sore all over. How could I fall asleep so easily?”

Andrew looked apologetic and sat down on the couch, his gaze lowered.

Iridessa seized the chance. She sat on his lap and wrapped her arms around his neck. A subtle, mysterious fragrance drifted toward him.

Andrew laughed as he held her. “You’re a bit unusual tonight. Are you just too happy? Usually, you fall asleep right away.”

Shaking her head, Iridessa—still playing Nyx—said, “I don’t want to sleep.”

Andrew smiled and held her closer.

Iridessa’s face flushed, everything unfolding exactly as planned.

Still, her heartbeat refused to settle.

Fortunately, although Andrew noticed it, he didn’t dwell on it. He assumed it was simply a natural aftereffect of their earlier intimacy.

With her determination and near-perfect covert arts, Iridessa should have been able to control her heartbeat. Yet at this moment, Andrew was completely exposed before her.

She had never truly seen such a thing in her life.

Although covert arts and assassination required a precise understanding of the human body, she had no real experience—especially with this. In the end, she was still just a girl.

The overwhelming masculine presence so close to her made Iridessa’s legs feel weak.

This was the only way she could think of to get close to Andrew.

And to strike, she needed even more exacting conditions.

Even now, with the two of them locked in such intimate proximity, she lacked confidence in delivering a single fatal blow.

She knew all too well—once the thought of killing formed in her mind, the man holding her would sense it instantly and snap her neck.

Iridessa’s slender fingers traced slowly along Andrew’s back. She could feel the powerful flow of blood beneath his skin, along with waves of condensed energy pulsing through his body.

At any moment, he could unleash power capable of destroying everything.

Vance’s combat strength is far inferior to Andrew’s… she thought, a trace of sadness surfacing.

Poor Vance still longed for a chance to face Andrew one-on-one. He would never accept his previous defeat.

“Nyx, what’s wrong?” Andrew suddenly asked, lifting his head with a puzzled look. “Why do I feel like you’re a bit down?”
