Rising from the Ashes (Andrew and Lauren) Chapter 3112
Just like that, the Highland Tribe began its mass migration, leaving the valley behind.
Through the narrow canyon pass, the tribe pressed forward, carrying their families and possessions on a grueling journey. The young children and teenagers were curious and excited about the outside world, but the elderly and middle-aged wore anxious expressions, often falling into long stretches of silence.
Life in the Wastelands was unstable. After all, the Highland Tribe had originally been driven out of the Wastelands and forced to settle here. To them, returning without powerful backing felt less like hope and more like leaping from one hell straight into another.
“Knox, keep a close eye on your people the entire way,” Andrew said.
He stood atop a mountain ridge, watching until the Highland Tribe had fully evacuated the valley before finally turning away. Then he added, “Juno, head back to Abyss City immediately. Have Mr. Hearst send a convoy to pick everyone up. At this pace, we can’t afford any delays.”
Juno nodded. “Got it. I’ll go right now!”
She took off without hesitation.
Nyx spoke up beside him. “Andrew, you’re worried something might happen in Abyss City, aren’t you?”
Andrew nodded. “Yes. We’ve already been gone for two days. The longer we’re away, the more likely it is that Arya or the Cathedral will catch wind of it. If that happens, Abyss City will be in serious trouble. Mr. Hearst and the others won’t be able to hold on by themselves.”
He continued, “And the Ludendorff family is already cornered. If they launch a desperate all-out attack, the consequences would be disastrous.”
Nyx was startled. “Just the two of us?”
Andrew looked toward the open plains beyond the canyon, where the Highland Tribe had gathered. His voice was deep and resolute. “Of course not. We’ll have five thousand Highland warriors with us. I think their battle axes and broadswords are already thirsting for werewolf blood.”
Nyx’s body trembled as she watched Andrew leap down from the mountain and sprint toward the plains.
This man had finally secured his first true army—one capable of dominating the Wastelands.
Five thousand Highland Tribe warriors—young, strong, and hardened by battle.
With combat abilities rivaling those of the werewolves, this force was terrifying.
On the plains, Othniel roared, “Assemble!”
Immediately, five thousand warriors tightened their grips on their weapons and formed ranks. In less than two minutes, a full battle formation stood ready—orderly, disciplined, and imposing.
A heavy, solemn atmosphere filled the air, thick with impending violence.
The Highland children who had been crying fell silent, as did many of the women. Even the dispirited elders lifted their heads, light returning to their clouded eyes.
The Highland Tribe might have lost their homeland, but their warriors remained among the finest in the Wastelands.
Once assembled, they were still an invincible spear—one capable of protecting their people.
Othniel’s expression was grave, his emotions complex. “From this moment on, I will no longer serve as your commander. I will stand among you—as one of you.”
He raised his cavalry saber high and roared, “Long live the Highland Tribe! We are the eternal, undefeated warriors of the Wastelands!”
All five thousand warriors roared back in unison, “Long live the Highland Tribe! We are the eternal, undefeated warriors of the Wastelands!”
Their voices echoed across the plains, carrying with them an overwhelming killing intent.
Knox had been moving among the tribe, checking on families and offering help where it was needed. He straightened his back, excitement lighting his expression.
Nyx walked over and smiled at him. “You’re the next chieftain of the Highland Tribe. You can’t just rush into battle recklessly anymore.”
Knox snorted and shook his head. “I may be the next chieftain, but I’m also a Highland Tribe warrior. My life isn’t worth more than any other warrior’s.”
Nyx paused for a moment, then said with genuine admiration, “Knox… you’ve finally grown up. Now you really are a man.”
