Othniel added, “That’s right, Mr. Lloyd. The Highland Tribe is not ungrateful. We will repay what you’ve done for us.”

Andrew shook his head.

“I won’t deny that I want brave Highland warriors—men who can fight,” he said. “But after witnessing the suffering of your tribe, my conscience won’t allow it. I won’t take a single Highland warrior with me. These men should stay with their wives, their children, and their parents. They should fight for the people they love and battle the werewolves to the very end—not follow me far from home, never knowing if they’ll return.”

Silence fell over the great hall. The way everyone looked at Andrew now was filled with respect and deep emotion.

Andrew shook his head again. “But what concerns me most is the future of the Highland Tribe. Compared to my own ambitions—to conquer the Wastelands—I would rather see your people have a bright and peaceful future.”

Knox shouted, “Everyone, that’s exactly why our entire tribe should follow him! He has the ability to restore our people to our former glory. The Highland Tribe needs a leader like him!”
