Othniel watched in stunned gratitude and deep admiration, then ordered another warrior to escort the injured man back to the Highland Tribe settlement. The rest of them rushed straight toward the mountain fortress.

The fortress stood at the far edge of the tribe’s territory. On both sides, towering canyon walls rose sharply, forming a natural barrier. In the narrow passage between the cliffs, a massive stone fortress had been erected, soaring at least three hundred feet high.

By the time Andrew and the others arrived under Othniel and Hershel’s lead, the fortress was already crawling with werewolves. Only a handful of Highland Tribe warriors remained, gripping their battle axes and broadswords as they fought desperately against the transformed beasts. One by one, after agonizing screams, they were overwhelmed and slain. The fortress above had become a scene of utter carnage.

Seeing his people slaughtered, Othniel’s face twisted with fury and grief. “I was gone for only a moment, and the werewolf clan launched a full-scale invasion. Mr. Lloyd, I’m asking you all to help protect the Chief. Hershel, follow me into battle!”

The father and son roared as they charged forward from ground level, then leapt directly onto the mountain wall. Like agile apes, they scaled the stone face in powerful bounds toward the fortress above. Othniel was extraordinarily strong, among the elite of martial gods. His mind racing, Tobiah shouted an order to a nearby Highland warrior. “Quick, return to the tribe! Gather all our warriors and prepare for a fight to the death!” The warrior turned and sprinted away.

Tobiah then turned to Andrew and the others. “Mr. Lloyd, the fortress will most likely fall. Originally, most of the werewolf army had deployed to the Wastelands to fight the Cathedral, so they weren’t a serious threat to us. But now, the situation has changed.”

He clenched his fists. “The fall of the fortress isn’t Othniel’s fault—it was inevitable. Our tribe was never a match for the werewolves to begin with. The only thing we can do now is abandon the fortress, retreat to the tribe, and fight them to the death. Everyone, please come back with me. We can’t take any risks.”

Knox gritted his teeth. “Father, I’m not leaving. You go back first. I’m going to join Othniel and Hershel to defend our tribe.”

Tobiah shouted angrily, “You fool! Can’t you see the werewolves are attacking in full force? The fortress has already fallen!”

Knox replied stubbornly, “I had no choice before because I was useless. But now that the Arcturus bloodline in my body has awakened… If I still act like a coward, what right do I have to call myself your son? What right would I have to lead the Highland Tribe to freedom in the future?”

Tobiah was about to argue further when Andrew suddenly laughed. “Chief, I think Knox is right. Since he’s already awakened the Arcturus bloodline and mastered his strength, then as a man, he should fight and bleed for the Highland Tribe—and for you. And of course, there’s me too.”
