Rising from the Ashes (Andrew and Lauren) Chapter 3008
Most importantly, Andrew remained calm and composed as he faced the Cathedral’s white tide, completely unfazed. Every word he spoke struck true, leaving Kass with nothing to refute. They had conquered Storm City, yet this seemingly insignificant Abyss City had turned out to be an iron wall. Reluctant as he was, Kass ultimately chose to accept reality.
“Fine,” he said. “We’ll do as you suggest. The Cathedral will bypass Abyss City and continue our assault on Throne City. But Andrew, you’re now a regional warlord in your own right. I hope you’ll stand by what you just said and avoid further conflict with the Cathedral. And I, in the name of the Holy Lord, promise you this—without explicit orders from above, we will not attack Abyss City again.”
Andrew smiled faintly. “That’s more like it, Cardinal. Let’s go our separate ways. I wish you success in taking Throne City.”
As Andrew swaggered back toward Abyss City, Kass remained where he stood, his expression shifting rapidly as he sank into thought.
If the Ludendorff family were eliminated, the Cathedral’s faith could spread freely across the Outlands, vastly increasing Lomuia Grand Cathedral’s followers and influence. Yet this grand ambition had now run into a wall—like a raging flood crashing against an immovable boulder. No matter how fiercely the current surged, it couldn’t move it. Abyss City, and Andrew himself, were that boulder.
For a brief moment, Kass felt a sense of discouragement. As expected, spreading their Lord’s faith was a long and arduous road. The expansion of the Light was never smooth, always fraught with twists and setbacks.
If Mephiston were here, none of these problems would exist. But God’s Left Hand had come to the Outlands this time for another purpose—the Veiled Paradise. Everything followed its own fate. Kass was a warmonger, a fanatic, and a berserker at heart, yet now that fervor felt as if it had been doused with cold water, forcing him into sudden clarity.
The Cathedral’s army was repelled by Abyss City for the second time, and this retreat was absolute. They vanished beyond the horizon before splitting into two forces, bypassing the city and marching toward Throne City.
Nyx looked at the tall, powerfully built man before her, the dark stubble on his lips betraying days of nonstop battle without rest. An unprecedented sense of security and joy welled up in her heart. Stepping forward, she wrapped her arms around him and said through clenched teeth, “You’re mine, you hear me?”
Andrew patted her firm hips and grinned. “Nice and bouncy. You’ll definitely give me plenty of children someday.”
Nyx’s face flushed bright red as she glared at him. “Don’t talk nonsense! There are other people around!”
Knox and the others stood some distance away, grinning shamelessly as they watched the scene unfold. Andrew showed no embarrassment at all. He pulled Nyx close by the waist and chuckled softly. “Then we’ll continue tonight, sweetheart.”
Nyx lowered her eyes, her cheeks burning. “In your dreams! My legs are still weak!” Though her words were a refusal, her smile bloomed bright and captivating.
Andrew marveled inwardly. Foreign women really were different—once they opened up, the experience was intoxicating beyond words.
Still, he had to set those pleasures aside for now. He needed to head to the Deadlands. With the agreement secured here at Abyss City, things would remain stable for the time being.
As for Reginald… Andrew would check on him no matter what.
