Rising from the Ashes (Andrew and Lauren) Chapter 3006

Facing the golden lightning, Andrew struck back with his sword, unleashing three consecutive slashes. His body flashed through the air, shifting hundreds of meters as the lightning—seemingly enraged—pursued him relentlessly. Black-red sword beams burst from Godslayer one after another, colliding head-on with the descending lightning.

A few seconds later, Andrew halted midair. His overwhelming aura surged straight into the heavens. The golden lightning finally broke apart, dissolving into wisps of smoke before vanishing completely.

Andrew leveled his greatsword forward, a smug smile curling at his lips. “Cardinal Kass,” he said, “the Cathedral’s holy light isn’t all that impressive.”

At that moment, he radiated an aura of absolute dominance and supreme confidence. His demonic presence swept across the battlefield below, causing the Cathedral warriors’ resolve to waver. A chill ran through their scalps, and for an instant, they even forgot to attack.

Lysander, shocked and furious, roared as he shot up from the ground. He charged at Andrew once more, unleashing a flurry of punches.

Andrew’s eyes turned icy as he glanced at him. Gripping his greatsword with both hands, he slashed downward with brutal force.

High above, a sword beam hundreds of meters long crashed down like a collapsing pillar, carrying boundless sword energy as it plummeted straight toward Lysander’s head.

“What—” Lysander’s face drained of color in sheer terror.

Under the crushing pressure of that strike, the angelic phantom behind him failed to endure and dissipated first.

Then his youthful face twisted in agony. Cracks spread across his body, as if countless beams of light were about to burst forth from within.

Below, Makhaylus—who had been leading the assault on the city gates—sensed the imminent danger. He looked up at Lysander in midair, his eyes blazing with rage.

    “Lysander!” he roared.

His body swelled explosively as he bellowed. In an instant, a true giant appeared on the battlefield. Makhaylus now stood nearly sixteen feet tall, his rugged face set with deadly resolve. He launched himself upward and wrapped his arms around Lysander.

Turning his back to the sky, he positioned himself to take Andrew’s sword strike head-on.

Across the battlefield, the Cathedral warriors, along with Juno, Franz, and the others, all held their breath. Everyone could see it clearly—Makhaylus was using his own body as a shield for Lysander.

Kass’s expression darkened as he rushed forward as well. He hadn’t expected Andrew to suddenly unleash such a devastatingly powerful strike. If it landed directly, Lysander would die without question.

That would be an unbearable loss for the Cathedral.

Lysander’s importance far surpassed Rosemary’s. This perpetually smiling angel was one of the leading candidates for the next Pope. Among the twelve angels, the Cherub had always been a pillar of strength, ranked among the very best. Lysander was still in his growth phase, and his deployment to the Outlands was meant to temper him.

Kass didn’t dare imagine the punishment awaiting him if Lysander perished here. Even if the Pope spared him, Mephiston certainly would not.

The massive sword beam tore into Makhaylus’s body.

He howled in agony, yet lowered his head and tightened his embrace around Lysander.

The divine light in Makhaylus’s eyes rapidly dimmed.

“Makhaylus!” Lysander roared, tears flooding his eyes.

“I won’t let anything happen to you,” Makhaylus said with a weak smile, already prepared for death.

Then, suddenly, the sword beam slicing through the sky dissipated.

A massive, penetrating wound remained on Makhaylus’s body. If he had been an ordinary person, he would have been cleaved in two. For him, however, it was life-threatening—but not fatal.

Kass’s crimson robes billowed as he stepped in front of the two angels, watching Andrew with wary eyes.

In a cold voice, he asked, “Why did you hold back?”
