Rising from the Ashes (Andrew and Lauren) Chapter 2821
“The Lloyd royal family of Holtrien does have some skill—I’ll give them that. But in the end, they’re nothing special!”
With those words, the man launched another attack.
Eleanor was already prepared and immediately met him head-on. Even so, she lasted only two exchanges before coughing up blood. Seeing this, the young Andrew panicked, fury flashing across his face.
“Mom, I’m coming to help you!”
He charged forward without hesitation. Eleanor cried out in alarm and rushed after him, but the man’s large hand shot out, reaching for the boy’s neck.
Unexpectedly, the boy leaned sharply backward. Then, like a baseball slide, he slipped straight under the man’s grasp. Clutching a small pocket knife, he stabbed toward the man’s waist with a sharp shout.
Rip—
The man instantly dissolved into thin air.
The boy froze, staring in disbelief. He was certain he had struck him.
—But Andrew, watching from outside the illusion, saw the truth.
The child version of himself had indeed landed the blow. However, the attacker was using a technique that allowed his body to split and reform like smoke.
It was a legendary martial art—the Shifting Form Technique.
A unique manipulation of energy that blurred the boundary between solid reality and illusion, making it impossible for enemies to distinguish what was real.
The man’s figure reassembled as he chuckled darkly. “Brat, you’ve got a bit of talent. I’ll give you that.”
Then his voice turned cold. “But trash is still trash. In my eyes, you’re nothing more than an insect.”
The wind screamed as he attacked again.
This time, the boy froze—too late. A chilling grip closed around his neck.
Andrew’s heart tightened as he watched his younger self get caught.
He couldn’t remember how his mother had saved him back then.
The man growled, “Ms. Schafer, are you coming back to the Veiled Faction with me or not?”
Eleanor looked at Andrew, pain flooding her eyes. She whispered softly, “Andy, don’t be scared. I’ll save you.”
Then she raised her gaze to the masked man. “Rafe Holloway—let go of my son, and I’ll return with you.”
Rafe let out a cold laugh. “Good. I thought you’d be harder to drag back. Come here and seal your energy points.”
Eleanor had no choice.
From Andrew’s perspective as an observer, something felt wrong—yet he couldn’t pinpoint it at first. He stared at the furious little boy, the helpless Eleanor, and the tall man wearing a ghost mask.
Then his mind jolted violently.
He realized what it was.
Rafe’s eyes.
They held amusement—and a murderous chill.
He never intended to take Eleanor back alive.
He intended to kill her.
“Don’t go!” Andrew shouted instinctively.
But everything before him belonged to the past. Nothing he said could change it.
Eleanor sealed her energy and stood still, prepared to be taken.
In the next instant, Rafe slammed his palm into the boy, sending him flying. Then, with a single swift motion, he sliced Eleanor’s throat.
—Blood burst forth.
Eleanor clutched her neck in disbelief. “H-How dare you—”
Rafe laughed, the sound harsh and grating, like a night owl’s cry. “Ms. Schafer, this was the Elders’ true order all along. Anyone who betrays the Veiled Faction dies—even you. So rest in peace.”
The boy dropped to his knees, staring in horror as his mother died before his eyes. He screamed and tried to rush forward, but darkness swallowed him, and he collapsed unconscious.
Andrew felt his own eyes turn bloodshot.
“I’ll kill you, you monster!”
He lunged forward, reaching for Rafe’s throat—but his hands passed through rippling air.
The scene shattered.
In the next instant, everything shifted again.
Andrew stared anxiously at the new vision. Rafe was gone. Only the young boy remained—pale, shaking, and crying.
Then he saw an extremely handsome man holding Eleanor’s body in his arms.
It was Reginald.
He spoke without emotion, his voice flat, even edged with resentment. “Stop crying. I’ll send you to enlist in the army. Your mother is gone. She died protecting you.”
“If you want her to rest in peace,” he continued coldly, “then you’d better live well.”
The boy trembled as he lowered his head. It felt as if the entire world had collapsed.
Andrew felt the same.
He had always believed Eleanor was still alive somewhere. But the truth was far crueler—she had died long ago.
And she had died because of him.
Andrew couldn’t accept it.
He screamed, clutching his head as he dropped to his knees.
Outside Harmony Cavern, Valerie panicked instantly.
