Rising from the Ashes (Andrew and Lauren) Chapter 2813
Harlan looked completely cornered, at a loss for words. Just then, a faint cough sounded behind him as Roman finally stepped inside.
He carried an air of mystical wisdom, but the black mole at the corner of his mouth—and the single long hair sprouting from it—completely ruined the effect. At first glance, he appeared magnanimous; look closer, and he felt sleazy, even venomous.
“Hello. I’m Roman Lawrence. Nice to meet you both,” he said with a friendly smile.
Valerie replied flatly, “Mr. Lawrence, you finally decided to show yourself.”
“We came here seeking Mount Lourneau’s help,” she continued. “So whatever terms you require, just name them.”
Roman let out a modest laugh. “Ms. Reyes, you’re joking. Mount Lourneau is a respected sect in the martial world. When we help others, we do so out of goodwill, not for profit.”
Valerie nodded. “That’s good to hear. Then please—save Andrew.”
Roman’s gaze immediately shifted to Andrew, and Andrew met his eyes. That calm, steady look inexplicably made Roman’s heart skip a beat.
Andrew clearly understood the severity of his condition, yet he remained composed.
Roman silently admitted that Andrew truly was a rare talent—though fate clearly had no intention of letting him live long. With a troubled expression, he said, “I’ve already examined your condition. Unfortunately, Mount Lourneau doesn’t have the ability to help you.”
Valerie erupted. “If you can’t help, then why did you drag this out and wait until now to show up? What’s your game?”
Andrew lifted a hand.
“Valerie, let him finish.”
Roman sighed regretfully. “Mount Lourneau does possess miraculous methods to heal the wounded and save lives. But your condition is something you should understand yourself. Your meridians are nearly completely severed, and your energy core is utterly dried up.”
He continued, “Keeping you alive is easy enough. But restoring you completely? I’m afraid that’s beyond me—not even a little.”
Valerie had been boiling with rage, but when she turned and looked at Andrew, her eyes suddenly burned with tears.
“Andrew, don’t worry,” she said. “No matter what, I’ll find a way to help you.”
She rushed over and grabbed his hand, her touch unbelievably gentle.
Andrew shook his head and smiled. “Valerie, don’t worry. I’m not discouraged.”
Turning to Roman, he asked, “May I meet Mr. Johnston?”
Roman shook his head. “That’s not possible. Mr. Johnston is in seclusion.”
“I can wait,” Andrew said.
Roman shook his head again. “It’ll be at least half a year—and that’s only an estimate. The actual timeline is uncertain.”
Andrew frowned slightly, but Valerie had reached her breaking point.
She snapped, “You old fraud—you’re doing this on purpose! You’ve been making excuses since yesterday! You dodged us then, and now you’re doing it again? Mount Lourneau may be powerful in the martial world, but honestly, I don’t give a damn!”
Roman smiled bitterly. “Ms. Reyes, your temper really is something. Everything I’ve said is the truth. Mount Lourneau will always respect the Reyes family. But if we can’t help, then we simply can’t.”
Andrew fell silent for a moment, then said suddenly, “Valerie, let’s go.”
Valerie stared at him in shock. “We’re leaving?”
“Yes,” Andrew replied calmly. “Let’s go. We’ll find another way.”
Valerie snorted coldly, scooped Andrew up, and turned to leave.
