Rising from the Ashes (Andrew and Lauren) Chapter 2724
The moment everyone left, Lorenzo collapsed to his knees and slammed his forehead against the floor again and again. “Mr. Vazquez, I was wrong—terribly wrong. Please, calm your anger.”
Guillermo clasped his hands behind his back as he rose to his feet. “Ever since Reginald betrayed me, I stopped taking apprentices. In my entire life, I’ve only taken three.
“The first died young and left nothing worth mentioning.
“The second was Reginald—a once-in-a-generation talent. To this day, I still think it’s a shame.
“And the third…” Guillermo’s eyes flicked down. “That would be you.”
He continued, “Lorenzo, your talent was never close to Reginald’s. But you had one thing going for you—you were steady, patient, able to endure what others couldn’t. Yet this time, you showed yourself to be all bark and no bite, desperate for quick success.
“You’re my apprentice. Your martial strength is limited, yes, but your true skill has always been strategy—planning, pulling strings, shaping the battlefield from behind the scenes. I never imagined you’d take such a winning position and sink it into the mud.”
Lorenzo panicked, his voice breaking. “Mr. Vazquez, I—”
Guillermo cut him off with a cold snort. “I’m not blaming you. Everyone makes mistakes. But some mistakes reveal a person’s lack of weight, depth, discipline. To put it bluntly—they show you’re not good enough.
“A student of mine shouldn’t be this incompetent. Especially not when you were facing Andrew, who was still recovering from serious injuries. In raw strength and in resources, you held every advantage. Yet you lost… and you lost miserably.”
Lorenzo cried out, “Don’t worry, I’ll kill him no matter what!”
Guillermo didn’t even acknowledge the outburst. “Judging from the sharpness Andrew has shown, he’s no weaker than his father. In some ways, he even surpasses Reginald. Back then, Reginald only cared about becoming the strongest. He dominated because he never saw the world—or its people—as anything worth noticing. With that mindset, everything before him became a straight, unobstructed path.”
He paused, eyes narrowing. “But Andrew… Andrew is different.
“He went through blood and fire inside the organization, and his mind became unbreakable—far tougher than Reginald’s ever was. Most importantly, he carries a destiny.
“Reginald’s wife—Andrew’s mother… the methods she wielded were unlike anything I had ever seen. Andrew carries the legacy she left behind. I don’t yet know what that legacy truly is, but it exists. That’s why, back then, I had no choice but to bring someone in to seal his energy core.”
Guillermo added, “Until now, the seal has held reasonably well. But signs of instability are returning, and your latest failure has made everything far more difficult.”
Lorenzo growled, voice shaking with fury, “Mr. Vazquez, why not just kill Andrew directly? Once that brat dies, everything will fall into place. The Lloyd royal family and Reginald may be strong, but with our power, we don’t fear them. Give us a few more years, and with your plans pushing forward, Mr. Vazquez… the entire country will finally fall under your grand vision.”
