Lennox’s mind went blank as terror exploded through him. “Dad!” he screamed, the sound sharp enough to shake the room.

Corbin’s face had turned ghostly pale, drained of all color. Blood mixed with foam poured from his mouth as violent coughing wracked his body. He gasped, “T-The water… it’s poisoned! You bastard… h-how dare you do something so unforgivable?”

He tried desperately to lift a hand to grab Lennox, but his fingers caught nothing. His arm fell limp to the floor, and his eyes slid shut.

Just like that, he died without another sound.

Lennox’s mind buzzed. He clutched Corbin’s body and wailed, Dad… Dad! How did this happen? It wasn’t me… it really wasn’t me! His whole body jolted as he whispered, “Something’s wrong with the drug… Did Mikayla mess it up? Yeah—she must’ve mixed it up by accident and made it poisonous.”

But as he spoke, his voice grew hoarse.

Lennox was foolish, but not delusional. There was no way the drug had been mixed up by mistake.

There was only one explanation:
Mikayla had planned to poison Corbin from the very start.

That conniving bitch had used him.

A wave of rage and hatred surged through Lennox like a tidal wave. His eyes hardened, and he spotted a decorative sword hanging on the wall.

“Dad, I’ll avenge you. I’ll kill those traitorous Owens.”

He shoved Corbin’s body aside, dashed across the room, and yanked the sword down. But before he could reach the door, he heard rapid footsteps rushing in. A moment later, a group of apprentices stormed in with weapons drawn.

Right behind them came several elders of the Advanced Medical Institute, and finally, the crowd parted as Lorenzo and Mikayla entered.

“Grand Elder!” one of the elders gasped.
The apprentices froze, stunned.

Lennox opened his mouth to explain, but Lorenzo beat him to it, shouting, “You animal—you vile animal! Even beasts don’t kill their own. Corbin was your father! How could you… how could you poison him?”

His accusation sent the room into a frenzy.

“Lennox, you filthy bastard! Grab him! Cut this monster to pieces!” one of Corbin’s loyal elders roared.

Eight apprentices lunged at Lennox at once. He didn’t even get the chance to raise his sword before fists slammed into his chest and face. One brutal strike hit him directly in the energy core; his face turned purple as blood sprayed from his lips, forcing him to his knees.

“It wasn’t me, Elder— it really wasn’t! He was my father! Why would I kill him? It was the Owens family! That father-daughter pair are the real monsters—the real traitors!” Lennox shouted, eyes burning with hatred and desperation.

But none of the apprentices or elders listened.

“Hold him down!” the loyal elder barked.

The apprentices yanked Lennox’s arms and legs apart until he was stretched out in a spread-eagle position. The elder stepped forward, his expression ice-cold, and slammed his palm onto Lennox’s energy core—shattering it.
