The Unwanted Wife and Her Secret Twins Chapter 293

    The old Scarlett was back

    Mia’s POV

The bar Scarlett had chosen was exactly the kind of place she gravitated toward when she was feeling triumphant–dimly lit, expensive, and filled with the kind of men who wore watches that cost more than most people’s cars.

I spotted her immediately at the far end of the bar, leaning against the polished marble counter with one elegant hip cocked, her red hair catching the amber light from the overhead fixtures. She was wearing a black dress and she was absolutely radiant.

    The old Scarlett was back.

Gone was the broken, drunk woman I’d helped to the bathroom just days ago. This version of Scarlett was vibrant, animated, flirting shamelessly with the bartender–a guy who looked like he’d stepped out of a men’s cologne advertisement.

“And then,” she was saying as I approached, her voice carrying that musical laugh I’d missed, “I told him that if he wanted to impress me, he’d have to do better than that. “”

The bartender was hanging on her every word, his eyes tracking the movement of her hands as she gestured dramatically.

“Did it work?” he asked, polishing a glass with unnecessary concentration.

“Take A Guess” Scarlett replied with a wicked grin

When she spotted me approaching, her face lit up like Christmas morning.

“Mia!” she squealed, launching herself at me with the enthusiasm of a golden retriever. “Thank God you’re here.”

She pulled back to examine my face. “You look… surprisingly normal.”

“Sorry to disappoint,” I said, sliding onto the barstool beside her.

“Oh, I’m not disappointed. I’m concerned. This level of composure after what happened last night is either extremely healthy or extremely concerning.”

The bartender appeared in front of me with professional efficiency. “What can I get you?”

“Whatever she’s having,” I said, nodding toward Scarlett’s nearly empty martini glass.

“Make it a double,” Scarlett added cheerfully. “My friend here has had quite the evening.‘

As the bartender moved away to prepare my drink, I noticed the small crowd of admirers that had apparently been circling Scarlett like sharks before my arrival. Three men in expensive suits were hovering nearby, clearly waiting for an opportunity to reclaim her attention.

    “Busy night?” I observed.

Scarlett glanced over at her audience with amused disdain. “Oh, them? They’re like mosquitoes. Persistent but ultimately harmless.” She raised her voice slightly. “Boys, this is private girl time. Go find someone else to bore with your stock portfolios.”

One of them, a guy with perfectly styled blond hair and a watch that could probably fund a small country, stepped forward with obvious reluctance to give up.

“Scarlett, we were just discussing the merger-”

“Were we?” Scarlett’s eyebrows rose in mock surprise. “How fascinating. I must have missed that part while I was completely ignoring you.”

He opened his mouth to try again, but Scarlett had already turned away.

“And that,” she said to me in a stage whisper loud enough for them to hear, “is how you handle men who think their net worth is a personality.”

The rejected suitors retreated to a table across the room, licking their wounded egos.

My drink arrived–something clear and strong that burned pleasantly on the way down.

“Now,” Scarlett said, swiveling on her stool to face me directly, “let’s talk about last night.”

    “Which part specifically?”

“Oh, I don’t know. Maybe the part where your supposedly dead ex–husband materialized? Or perhaps the part where your psychotic stepsister announced she’s now an heiress and engaged?”

I took another sip of my drink. “When you put it like that, it does sound rather dramatic.”

“Dramatic?” Scarlett’s voice rose an octave. “Mia, this is like if Shakespeare and a soap opera had a baby anu then that baby did cocaine. This is beyond dramatic. This is operatic.”

Despite everything, I found myself smiling. “You have such a way with words.”

“It’s a gift,” she said modestly. “But seriously, what the actual fuck is happening? How does someone just fake their death and then waltz back into society as a completely different person?”

“Money,” I said simply. “Enough money,”

“And Taylor? How did that manipulative bitch go from convicted felon to billionaire heiress?”

“DNA testing, apparently. Turns out she’s the biological daughter of Marcus Field.”

Scarlett nearly choked on her martini. “Marcus Field? As in the Marcus Field who owned half of Manhattan before he died?”

    “The very same.”

“Jesus Christ on a cracker,” Scarlett breathed. “Do you know what this means?”

“That my life has officially become a bad movie?”

    The old Scarlett was back

“Well, yes, but also that she’s now one of the wealthiest women in America. The Field estate is worth… fuck, I don’t even know. Billions. Multiple billions.”

I drained my glass and signaled for another. “Lucky her.”

Scarlett stared at me with a mixture of admiration and concern. “Mia, you’re being remarkably calm about all this.”

“What’s the alternative? Screaming? Crying? Plotting revenge?”

“Yes!” Scarlett exclaimed. “Any of those would be normal reactions! This zen master routine is freaking me out.

The bartender refilled my glass, and I took a generous sip before responding. “You know what I realized today?”

    “What?”

“let Kyle and Taylor have their fairy tale reunion. Let them live happily ever after with their matching fake identities and their billions of dollars. I hope they’re absolutely miserable together.”

Scarlett raised her glass. “To being absolutely miserable together.”

We clinked glasses with perhaps more force than necessary.

My bladder was starting to protest the two large drinks I’d consumed. “I need to use the bathroom,” I announced, sliding off my stool.

“Don’t fall in,” Scarlett called after me cheerfully.

I made my way to one of the stalls. The alcohol had definitely loosened me up.

I was just settling in when I heard the bathroom door open and the sharp click of heels on marble.

“…completely perfect,” a familiar voice was saying. “I brought the pills. We just need to slip them into their drinks when they’re not looking.”

    1 froze.

“And you’re sure this will work?” The second voice was also familiar, though I couldn’t immediately place it. For more chapters visit Find_Novel(.)net

“Trust me, it’ll work. A couple of roofies in their cosmos, wait twenty minutes, then we send over a couple of guys from the hotel next door. They’ll be so grateful for the company, they won’t even remember saying yes.”

    My blood turned to ice.

    “What about the redhead?”

“Scarlett? Please. She’s been drinking since happy hour.”

The other one. They were talking about me.

I remained perfectly still in my stall, hardly daring to breathe. Through the gap in the door, I could see two figures reflected in the large mirror opposite the stalls.

    It’s my old friend.

    Taylor and Ketty.

Lord, didn’t I just meet these two crazy bitch the day before yesterday?

    That’s some efficient revenge.
