Mia’s POV

I sneezed, and the twins giggled.

“Mama, you sound like a baby elephant,” Alexander announced, bouncing on my bed while I tried to wrestle him into his tiny dress shirt.

Chapter 277 Getting Ready

I looked up to see him standing in the doorway of our bathroom, already dressed in his dark suit. He looked devastatingly handsome.

“I was wondering why it wasn’t going on right,” I said, frustrated with myself.

Thomas took the earrings from me and helped me put them on.

His fingers were gentle as he removed the earring I’d been struggling with, turning it around and sliding it through my ear with practiced ease.

“There,” he said softly, fastening the second earring. “Perfect.”

His hands remained on my shoulders as we both looked at our reflection in the bathroom mirror. We looked good together.

Thomas said, “I’m worried you might get upset, Mia. Today is Victoria’s and her close family’s territory. If she shows any disrespect towards you, find me before you confront her, okay?”

“I’m not planning to start any fights,” I said.

There had been an unexpected discovery during the fitting: Alexander was almost two centimeters taller than Ethan.

I’d always known Alexander was slightly bigger, but seeing them standing side by side in identical suits made the difference more obvious. Both of them had sturdy legs and arms from all their running around and climbing, but Ethan’s skin was noticeably fairer than his brother’s.

Alexander studied his reflection with obvious satisfaction. “I look like Uncle Thomas when he goes to work.”

“You look very handsome,” I agreed. “Both of you do.”

They asked, “Will Aunt Scarlett be there?”

I had told Scarlett we’d be going with Thomas to the cruise dinner. Scarlett hadn’t given me a clear answer about whether she’d be attending.

Her relationship with Morton was complicated.

Over the years, I’d witnessed so many of Scarlett’s ups and downs. I had to admit, this was the lowest point she’d been at emotionally in recent memory.

I couldn’t help but curse Morton again in the privacy of my own thoughts.

Chapter 277 Getting Ready

“I don’t know if Aunt Scarlett will be there,” I told the twins honestly.

“We planned a performance for Aunt Scarlett,” Ethan said quietly.

“What kind of performance?” I asked, though part of me was afraid to know.

“We’ve been practicing a song,” Alexander explained. ”

My heart melted completely. “That’s very sweet, boys. I’m sure if Aunt Scarlett is there, she’d love to hear it.”

“But if she’s not there, can we perform it for the other people?” Ethan asked.

They looked so grown–up.

The doorbell rang, and both boys immediately perked up.

“Uncle Thomas!” they shouted, jumping down from the bed and racing toward the front door.

“I wanted to,” Thomas replied, leaning down to kiss my cheek. “You look beautiful, by the way.”

I was still in my jeans and oversized sweater, my hair piled messily on top of my head. “I haven’t even gotten dressed yet.” 1
