The Unwanted Wife and Her Secret Twins Chapter 274

     What Are You Thinking About?

    Mia’s POV

Soon, Madison finished eating both sandwiches.

I watched her lick her fingers clean, making sure she got every last crumb.

What else could I do for this child?

To be honest, my feelings toward her were starting to shift.

A few weeks ago, when Madison falsely accused my twins at the wedding, I didn’t have a single good thought about this little girl. I’d seen her as a manipulative brat who’d been weaponized by her toxic mother.

But watching her devour those sandwiches with such desperate hunger now.

She looked up at me with those big blue eyes.

    “Thank you,” she whispered.

    “You’re welcome.” I replied.

The woman who’d been supervising Madison approached us.

“Time to go, Madison,” she said curtly.

“Can I… can I say goodbye to Alexander and Ethan?” she asked.

I looked around and spotted my boys playing with some rocks they’d collected.

“Of course,” I said. “Boys! Madison wants to say goodbye.”

Alexander and Ethan looked up from their game and walked over, their faces friendly but cautious.

They remembered the drama from school, but they were naturally kind children.

    “Bye, Madison,” Alexander said politely.

“Thanks for not being mean today,” Ethan added with typical four–year–old honesty.

Madison smiled, the first genuine smile I’d seen.

    “I’m sorry.” she said quietly.

“It’s okay,” Alexander said generously. “Everyone makes mistakes.”

“Yeah,” Ethan agreed. “We can be friends now if you want.”

    Madison’s eyes lit up. “Really?”

    “Really,” both boys confirmed.

The woman cleared her throat impatiently. “Madison, we need to leave now.”

The anger I felt persisted all the way home.

    Until dinner.

I absentmindedly poked at the chickpeas on my plate with my fork, my mind still replaying the day’s events.

The twins were telling Thomas about their adventure.

I barely registered their conversation. My fork continued its mindless journey through my dinner, moving food around without actually eating much of it.

Thomas noticed. “What are you thinking about, Mia?”

His words didn’t register in my mind immediately, and I hummed in response without looking up.

This clearly annoyed Thomas. He stood up from his chair, walked over to me, and before I could protest, picked me up from my seat and placed me on his lap.

“Hey,” I protested, though not very convincingly.

Thomas pinched my cheeks gently, forcing me to look at him. “What are you thinking about, Mia?”

The twins giggled at this display of affection.

I looked into Thomas’s warm brown eyes.

“Thomas, I want to invite Madison over for dinner.”

The reaction was immediate. Thomas’s eyebrows shot up, and he looked at me like I’d just announced I wanted to adopt a tiger.

“I’m sorry, what?” he said slowly.

“I want to invite Madison for dinner,” I repeated, more quietly this time.

Thomas studied my face carefully. “I thought you told me to keep my distance from them a few days ago.”

I could only laugh awkwardly, because he was absolutely right.

I wasn’t ready to tell Thomas that I had figured out Madison’s “allergy” was a complete fabrication.

“I think she’s too skinny,” I said instead, which was completely true. “And she really liked the sandwich I made today.”

I wrapped my arms around Thomas’s neck.

Thomas gave a strange laugh. “You made Madison a sandwich?”

I rolled my eyes. “You’re mocking me.”

He buried his head in my shoulder and laughed softly. “I don’t understand women.”

“Yes, you don’t!” I emphasized, poking him in the ribs.

    Chapter 274 What

He looked up at me, his expression becoming more serious. “Alright. Actually, this is interesting timing.”

    “What do you mean?”

“I got an invitation today. A cruise dinner next week. Business networking thing.” Thomas shifted me slightly on his lap so he could look at me properly. “I already turned it down.”

    “

Why?” I asked, though I suspected I knew the answer.

“Because Victoria is going too,” he confirmed. “I figured it would be easier to avoid the whole situation.”

The twins, who had been playing with Gas nearby while finishing their dinner, suddenly perked up at the words “cruise dinner.” ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ

“Did someone say cruise?” Alexander asked, his eyes lighting up with excitement.

“Like a big boat?” Ethan added, abandoning his carefully organized pile of green beans.

They immediately gathered around us, bouncing with curiosity.

“Uncle Thomas, are you going on a cruise?” Alexander asked.

“Can we come too?” Ethan wanted to know.

“Is it a pirate ship?” Alexander’s imagination was already running wild.

“Will there be treasure?” Ethan asked.

“Are there going to be dolphins?” Alexander continued.

“Can we swim with the sharks?” Ethan added.

“Do they have ice cream on cruise ships?” Alexander asked, getting to what he clearly considered the most important question.

I held up my hands to stop what seemed like an endless barrage of questions.

“Boys, slow down,” I said, laughing despite my earlier mood. “Uncle Thomas can only answer one question at a time.”

“So, what’s the dinner about?” I asked Thomas once the twins had settled down slightly.

Thomas shifted me on his lap again, his arms tightening around my waist. “It’s just a business dinner. Purely for socializing. Some networking event for people in the development and investment world.”

    “Sounds boring,” Alexander pronounced.

“Very boring,” Thomas agreed with a grin. “Lots of adults in fancy clothes talking about money and contracts.”

“Then why would anyone want to go?” Ethan asked with typical four–year–old logic,

“Because sometimes boring adult stuff is important for work,” I explained.

But the twins weren’t deterred by w pomer

the expression they’d perfected for maximum emotional manipulation.

    “Please, Mama?” Alexander asked sweetly.

“Please, Uncle Thomas?” Ethan added, tilting his head to maximize the cute factor. “Can we go on the cruise dinner?” they asked in unison.
