Daniel was online.

1 quickly switched back to 1*******m, my heart hammering as I walted to see if he’d read my messages.

The little “seen” notification appeared under my texts.

I pulled my pillow over my flead, trying to block out the endless questions.

Soon I was sandwiched between my sons, their steady breathing gradually lulling me back toward sleep. Gas had followed them, positioning himself at the foot of the bed like a furry sentinel.

This was real. These two beautiful boys who trusted me completely. Who saw me as their whole world, their safe harbor, their constant.

I could handle anything as long as I had them.
