“Dad, any news?” I ask as I walk into his office and see Enzo and Kyle there.

“I received a letter. From the so-called rouge king.” Dad says.

“What he wants?” I ask.

“The books, scrolls…” He says, dragging it out and looking down at the letter. That’s where I notice his anger, that he is trying to hide.

“Dad?” I say, and he looks up at me.

“And Madeleine and your mother.” He finishes with a growl.

I don’t answer, and I know I will explode in anger if I speak right now. We knew already what he wanted, but it didn’t make it easier. He is bold, directly asking us to hand them over, knowing we never will do it.

He is trying to make us angry, trying to make us try to protect them, just so he can try to make us fail. That is when I realized it. This is his plan.

“Stop,” I say, interrupting Dad and Enzo, who are spiraling down a road of anger. They look at me.

“He wants us to be like this, to get angry and pissed off, acting rashly. It can be why we would make a mistake and make it easier for him. We need to think about this and do it right. We know what he says in that letter is true, but he also knows giving it to us…” I don’t finish, but I know I don’t need to.

“You are right,” Dad says after a minute of silence.

“We need to think before we act. So we can protect your mother and Madeleine. But we also need to warn the other packs. Special wolves are never registered for the simple reason that we don’t want anyone to hurt them or worse.” Dad continues.

“Let the packs know any special wolf needs to be protected or sent here for protection. We will build an underground protection from the basement of the castle. We will get more warriors around there and make sure no one gets in other than those allowed. We can protect them we have room, and several wings can be used.” I say my brain is running a hundred miles per second.

Dad, not his head, agrees with me, and Enzo starts searching for wolves to start building.

“We also need to talk with Vladimir, and he needs to find a way to protect those of theirs with stronger gifts. I tried to contact the elves, but they didn’t want to talk. Witches know how to protect themselves but won’t help him if they don’t want to. The only bad thing is some will want to work with him, but we can’t sto that.” Dad says, and he is right.

Witches are those that are the biggest wildcard. Most witches want more power and try to get stronger And they don’t always care how, as they know they can stop anyone. If a witch or warlock wants to make her family line stronger by helping the réuges., nothing can stop them.

Is a witch powerless? The rouges don’t want them anyway.

The Elves have always been a mystery, and no one really knows where they are. They can live between humans and camouflage their ears. Or the homes they hide are so well hidden that no one has ever found them. So it is not really surprising that they don’t answer.

No, the ones we need to concentrate on are ourselves and the vampires, and that

is what we will be doing.

The door behind me opens, and I see Mom and Madeleine come inside, and I look at Dad.

“What is wrong?” Mom asks.

Dad explains everything to them as Madeleine comes sitting with me, and I can feel her getting scared. Lucian whimpers, yes, whimpers in my head. He doesn’t like that she is scared. I caress her hand softly.

‘I will protect you.’ I promise her in our mindlink.

‘I know you will.’ She answers.

‘But I am not a good fighter.’ She continued.

‘You never had to learn, and fighting isn’t easy in a human form, especially not against a wolf. All you can do is keep trying. And if ever attacked, use Lily. Lily is an old spirit, and she knows how to fight.’ I tell her.

‘Okay, but I want to learn my powers, Noah.’ She says pleadingly.

‘Okay, we will go look at the books and scrolls. I promise we will find ways to help you understand and learn.’ I tell her.

I know that she is scared, and I

agree with her. She needs to do something that can make her feel better. Make her feel that she is trying to do something. So I will help her. will make her study, train her,

and learn to use the powers she was given.

And I know who can help her, other than mom, of course. Greta, the one witch that lives with our pack. She was the one who helped control my powers as I grew up. I will ask her for help, and hopefully, she will say yes.

Just then, Dad looked up at us. He is on the phone, but I can see in his eyes that he is getting frustrated and furious.

“The vampires were attacked, four are missing, and expected to be kidnapped,” Dad says, and my anger rises.
