Chapter 2622
“You’ve got some nerve! How dare you attack Dragonmarsh generals? You’re going to pay for this!”
Even after being tied up, Trevor kept struggling and shouting threats.
Grace didn’t say a word. She raised her hand and slapped him several times until his head was spinning, his face red and swollen, blood trickling from the corners of his mouth.
“You think you’re worthy of being a general of Dragonmarsh?” Grace said coldly. “I’ll make sure you’re removed from your post and investigated.”
“Removed? Investigated? Ha! Who do you think you are? Don’t make me laugh!” Trevor scoffed, unfazed.
As one of Tristan’s most trusted generals, Trevor knew that only the emperor had the authority to dismiss him.
“Stop!”
Just then, a loud voice came from behind.
It was Tristan. He was dressed in protective gear and arrived with a large group of people.
Seeing him, Trevor lit up. “Hahaha… The reinforcements are here. You’re all finished now!”
Grace looked up, her expression cold and unreadable.
“The main hall…”
“Shut your mouth!”
Tristan cut him off sharply before he could say another word.
Turning to Grace, he forced a smile. “Grace, why didn’t you tell me you were coming? I would’ve made arrangements.”
“I heard the plague in Wugang City had worsened, so I brought a team to help. But your general not only refused to cooperate, he even tried to stop us. I’d like to know—were you aware of this?” Grace asked, her tone icy.
“Is that so?” Tristan frowned and turned to Trevor. “Trevor! Are you out of your mind? You dared to obstruct Princess Grace? When we get back, you’ll be punished with ten strikes from the army stick!”
“I…”
Trevor opened his mouth to explain but was silenced by Tristan’s glare. He swallowed his words.
He hadn’t expected Princess Grace to show up in the slums, right in the heart of the outbreak.
But clearly, Tristan was going to take all the blame for today’s events.
“Grace, don’t worry. I’ll deal with him for delaying your efforts. He’ll be punished severely,” Tristan promised.
“Brother, we can talk about him later. Right now, what matters most is saving the people infected with the plague. You’ve locked them all in the slums and left them to die. Isn’t that just giving up on them?” Grace snapped.
“Grace, I didn’t have much of a choice.” Tristan’s expression turned awkward. “We set up the quarantine to stop the plague from spreading and reduce casualties. No one expected it to mutate. It caught us off guard—I really don’t know what else to do.”
“Even so, this isn’t the way to handle it. Do you even realize there are healthy people locked in that quarantine zone? You’re throwing them into a death trap!” Grace’s anger boiled over.
She could understand the need to isolate those infected with the plague to stop it from spreading—but imprisoning healthy people alongside the sick and doing nothing? That was inhumane.
“No way. Healthy people are in there too?” Tristan looked around with feigned surprise. “Trevor! Did you mess up? I told you to quarantine the infected, not detain the healthy!”
“I… I didn’t know,” Trevor replied bitterly. “They were all gathered in one place. Who could tell who was sick? I just rounded them all up to contain the spread. I was thinking of the bigger picture!”
“Fool!” Tristan scolded. “When we get back, you’re demoted two ranks as punishment!”
Grace’s face darkened.
A two-rank demotion? That was nothing more than a slap on the wrist.
Trevor was Tristan’s right-hand man. Promotions and demotions were at his whim.
And Grace didn’t believe for a second that this was all Trevor’s doing. No one would dare lock up that many people without orders from above.
Still, it was clear Tristan wasn’t going to take responsibility.
Pressing the issue would only waste time—and in the end, Trevor would just be used as a scapegoat.
She knew her brother too well. And that knowledge only deepened her disappointment.
“Brother, if you really want to help, send more supplies. If not, then leave. This place is crawling with infection—you don’t want to catch the plague yourself,” Grace said, taking a deep breath and holding back her anger.
“Help? Of course I’ll help!” Tristan nodded quickly, then barked out orders. “Trevor! Take your troops and gather supplies from the nearby area. Do everything you can to assist Princess Grace with rescue efforts!”
“Yes, sir!” Trevor responded. He broke free of his restraints and left immediately with a large group of soldiers.
Grace looked at Tristan for a long moment, then said nothing. She turned back and threw herself into treating the sick.
