Chapter 2604
When the zombie horde attacked, Matthias didn’t back down. He led his troops into battle, using tanks and artillery to take on these horrifying undead creatures.
In Matthias’s mind, even if the zombies were immune to bullets and blades, they couldn’t possibly stand up to tanks and heavy artillery.
One cannon blast could flatten solid steel—what chance did a pile of rotten corpses stand?
That was the idea, at least. But reality hit hard—and fast.
There were just too many of them.
Thousands of zombies surged in from all directions. There was no stopping them.
They didn’t fear bullets. They didn’t hesitate. They didn’t retreat.
They charged straight through tank fire like it meant nothing.
The army’s fortifications? Useless.
Bullets? Worthless.
Sure, the tanks and artillery could blow some of them apart—but it wasn’t nearly enough. There were just too many.
Even when a zombie’s limbs were blown off, it kept crawling, kept pushing forward.
Unless a zombie was blown into bits, it wouldn’t go down.
And with each tank only firing a few rounds at a time, that level of destruction wasn’t happening fast enough.
At first, Matthias’s counterattack had some effect. A few zombies were wiped out, and he was feeling confident.
But as the horde drew closer, the real terror began to show.
These zombies weren’t just strong, fast, and insanely durable—they were also highly infectious.
One scratch or bite, and a person turned.
Then the nightmare truly began—when the zombies jumped into the trenches and began tearing through the soldiers in close combat.
Guns blazed, but it didn’t matter. The undead didn’t feel pain.
They lunged forward, took the hits, and ripped into the living with claws and teeth.
And those who died? They rose again—on the enemy’s side.
In minutes, Matthias’s so-called elite army became a liability, only helping the corpse poison spread faster.
“Damn it! What the hell are these things?! The more we kill, the more show up!” Matthias roared, gripping his telescope with trembling hands.
From afar, he watched the trenches dissolve into chaos.
Earlier, he’d been proud—watching his tanks blow zombies apart.
But now, as the enemy closed in, he realized he’d completely underestimated them.
His troops were being annihilated.
The zombies were too terrifying—far beyond anything he could have imagined.
“Your Highness! We need to retreat now! If we don’t pull out, we’ll lose everyone!” Kyle urged, his voice tense.
He’d been at Matthias’s side the entire time and had seen the horror up close.
The battlefield was lost.
If they didn’t act fast, the entire force would be wiped out.
“Where are the cannons?! Bring me all the cannons! Blast these damn things to pieces!” Matthias shouted, desperate for a last-ditch solution.
“Your Highness! All our artillery is already deployed! There are too many of them—we can’t hold the line! If we don’t fall back now, it’s over!” Kyle was starting to panic.
He’d already spotted several especially terrifying zombies rushing toward them.
These ones moved like lightning—leaping over ten meters in a single bound.
Artillery shells barely slowed them down. They were monsters among monsters.
“There has to be a way! I won’t be defeated by these things!” Matthias muttered, pacing furiously, racking his brain for a solution.
He’d fought countless battles in his life. He’d never faced anything like this.
“Your Highness! The front lines are breaking! We can’t hold them off anymore!” Kyle shouted, sweat pouring from his forehead.
More and more soldiers were dying by the second.
The defense that once seemed solid had completely collapsed.
The troops fought bravely—but in the face of an unstoppable zombie army, it was hopeless.
“…Retreat! Everyone, fall back!” Matthias finally snapped out of it, shouting the command.
“Fall back! Retreat now!” Kyle echoed, quickly signaling the retreat horn.
The surviving soldiers scrambled to escape in every direction.
But it was no use.
The zombies were too fast.
The soldiers couldn’t outrun them.
One by one, they were dragged down, ripped apart, and added to the enemy’s ranks.
Watching the slaughter unfold, Kyle’s heart sank into despair.
He was a seasoned general—but in that moment, he was powerless.
All he could do was stand there as his men were devoured.
The guilt was crushing.
If only they had retreated sooner…
Even saving one more life would have made a difference.
“You monsters! I’ll kill you all!” Kyle roared, fury overtaking him. He drew his steel blade and charged straight at the undead.
“What are you doing? Do you have a death wish?!” Matthias shouted, grabbing his arm.
Kyle was a martial arts master, yes—but even he was just one man.
Against tens of thousands of undead?
No matter how many he killed, he’d be overwhelmed eventually.
And when his strength ran out, so would his life.
