Chapter 2443In the Ballard Family Mansion

After dinner, Dustin was warmly invited to stay by the Ballard family.

This was the first time Natasha had brought her boyfriend home, so the family naturally gave the occasion great importance.

Simon, Natasha’s grandfather, personally accompanied them and even invited the young couple to his study for tea and conversation.

With Simon’s sharp intuition, he could tell that Dustin was no ordinary man. His demeanor, knowledge, and sophistication set him apart from others.

Simon spoke earnestly, “Dustin, I fully support your relationship with Natasha. Regardless of background or status, love between two people is what matters most. However, Natasha has been cherished and protected her entire life—she’s never faced any hardship. Once she’s with you, I hope you’ll continue to treat her well.”

“Don’t worry, Mr. Ballard. I will never let Natasha down,” Dustin replied with a serious expression.

Although their relationship had yet to progress significantly, they had already shared their feelings for each other. Natasha had been nothing but sincere with Dustin, and he had no intention of letting her down.

“Grandpa, you don’t need to worry about that. I have a sharp eye and would never make the wrong choice,” Natasha said confidently, a proud smile on her face.

“You are clever, Natasha, but I’m not worried about you suffering—I’m worried about Dustin. What if you lead him astray?” Simon teased with a chuckle.

“Grandpa! Are you saying I’m a bad influence? Aren’t you afraid I’ll scare off potential suitors?” Natasha pouted, clearly dissatisfied.

Simon laughed heartily. “How could a girl from the Ballard family not find a good match? At most, I won’t give a bride price but will make up for it with a generous dowry.”

“That’s too much of a bargain for him,” Natasha quipped, casting Dustin a playful glance.

Speaking of marriage, Simon’s tone turned serious. “Dustin, what are your thoughts on this? If it’s convenient, perhaps we can arrange for both families to meet and discuss the wedding soon.”

Simon’s suggestion wasn’t without reason. He foresaw turbulent times ahead in Oakvale and couldn’t predict what challenges the Ballard family might face. While things were still relatively peaceful, settling Natasha’s marriage would fulfill one of his wishes.

“Mr. Ballard, to be honest, I have pressing matters to handle right now and can’t spare the time. But I promise to give you a satisfactory answer within three months,” Dustin replied firmly.

The national destiny rested heavily on Dustin’s shoulders, and he couldn’t afford to be careless while gathering the Dracan essences. Moreover, he needed to consult with West Lucozia, especially Rufus, since such a significant occasion would require the involvement of both families.

Simon nodded, reassured. “I trust your word. Three months isn’t long, and we should be able to have the wedding by the end of the year.”

Suddenly, Natasha asked, “Grandpa, has something happened at home? I haven’t seen my uncles all evening.”

Earlier during dinner, someone from Mosey’s Mansion had paid a visit, after which Natasha’s three uncles had mysteriously disappeared. Their absence piqued her curiosity.

“There have been some developments at home, but they’re just minor issues. Nothing for you to worry about,” Simon replied with a smile.

“Grandpa, you’ve been preoccupied since dinner—it doesn’t seem like a trivial matter. If something’s wrong, you might as well tell us. Maybe we can help,” Natasha suggested.

Simon chuckled and shook his head. “Natasha, I can never keep anything from you.”

Although he didn’t want to burden his family, it was clear he couldn’t hide the truth any longer. His granddaughter was perceptive and full of ideas—perhaps she could offer some useful advice.

Simon’s expression turned somber. “The matter troubling me isn’t small. It concerns not only the future of the Ballard family but also the fate of Dragonmarsh itself.”

“What’s going on?” Natasha asked, intrigued.

“There are rumors that the emperor has a terminal illness and doesn’t have much time left. However, the crown prince has yet to be decided. As a result, potential heirs are forming alliances and consolidating their power. I fear Oakvale will soon be swept into chaos,” Simon explained with a sigh.

“So Frost Bane approached us tonight, proposing marriage to pull the Ballard family into their camp?” Natasha quickly pieced things together.

Frost Bane had previously expressed interest in her, but she had always ignored him. Now it was clear that the Mosey family had ulterior motives.

“You’re exactly right. The Mosey family wants an alliance to strengthen their position,” Simon confirmed.

Natasha frowned. “So the real dilemma is whether to side with Seamus. If we refuse, we risk offending him, which could make us enemies. But if we join his camp and he fails in the power struggle, the Ballard family could face disaster.”

Her analysis hit the mark. It was no wonder her grandfather was so troubled—this was a precarious situation.

“Yes, the Ballard family is caught in a difficult position and must tread carefully. That’s why your uncles are currently out handling the matter,” Simon replied.

“Where did they go?” Natasha asked.

“Your eldest uncle went to the Spanner family to gather information. Your second uncle is meeting with the Fallons to assess their stance. As for your third uncle, I sent him to West Lucozia overnight,” Simon said candidly.

    “West Lucozia?”

Hearing those words, Dustin’s brows furrowed.

Could Simon have sent Tobias Ballard, his third son, to consult with the Rhys family?
