Married At First Sight Chapter 4221
Chapter 4221Everyone has their own karma.
Whatever you sow, you will reap. You must face the consequences of your actions. Interfering in someone else’s karma will only bring harm to yourself.
The two sisters chatted for a while before Serenity said, “Sister, I have to go for a prenatal check-up. When you’re free another day, let’s talk again. Oh, and I’ll have someone bring Sonny to visit you this weekend. He misses you.”
“Okay,” Liberty agreed.
After hanging up, Serenity put her phone back in her bag, picked it up, stood, and said to the man at the desk, “Honey, it’s about time. Let’s go.”
“Alright, just a second.” Zachary quickly signed his name on the document, stamped it, closed the file, and stood up.
The couple left the office together. On the way out, Zachary handed the document to his secretary, who was caught off guard. He had assumed he’d have to go in and ask for it later. Watching his boss walk away with his wife, the secretary couldn’t help but wonder—had his boss been replaced?
Ever since Zachary got married, the secretary’s perception of him had changed over and over again.
Just as Zachary and Serenity reached the lobby, they heard hurried footsteps behind them. Instinctively, they turned around.
It was Josh.
He had abandoned his usual composed demeanor and was sprinting at full speed. He didn’t even slow down as he passed them, let alone say anything.
“Josh, what’s going on?” Zachary called after him.
In all the years they’d known each other, he had never seen Josh so anxious.
Serenity felt an uneasy premonition. Was something wrong with Jasmine?
Jasmine no longer worked at the bookstore. She and Josh had decided to hire a clerk to run the store, not for profit but to make sure students still had easy access to books and stationery near the school.
Josh’s voice rang out as he ran: “Jasmine had a stomachache and was rushed to the hospital. The doctor said she’s going into premature labor!”
Then, he disappeared through the building’s exit.
Serenity’s face paled. Her worst fear had come true—something had happened to Jasmine.
Jasmine was over seven months pregnant, only about thirty-five weeks along. There was still a month before her due date. Why was she going into labor so soon?
Without thinking, Serenity started running.
Zachary’s heart nearly leaped out of his chest. He caught up in a few strides and stopped her. “Seren, don’t run! Be careful! Jasmine is already in the hospital, and Josh is with her. She’ll be okay.”
Serenity was too anxious to listen.
Zachary held onto her firmly and said, “Let’s walk, I’ll support you. Jasmine is about a month ahead of you in pregnancy—around thirty-four or thirty-five weeks. Though it’s still premature, babies born at this stage usually do well with proper medical care. Modern technology is advanced. Preemies are placed in incubators and given specialized care.”
Serenity clutched her belly. “She should be thirty-five weeks now. But why did she go into labor early? Did she fall? Did she eat something she shouldn’t have? Something that induces labor?”
Married At First Sight Chapter 4222
Chapter 4222Zachary reassured her, “That’s unlikely. Josh’s cousin is Jasmine’s nutritionist—she oversees her meals every day. Jasmine wouldn’t eat the wrong thing… unless she snuck something.”
They both fell silent for a moment.
Pregnant women had strange cravings. Serenity had experienced it firsthand.
Once, she had woken up in the middle of the night craving braised pork. Zachary, ever the devoted husband, had driven to his hotel, woken up the chef, and had him prepare the dish. But by the time he brought it home, she had lost her appetite.
“Jasmine… she wouldn’t have eaten something dangerous, right? She knows better,” Serenity muttered.
Jasmine was about to become a mother. With a nutritionist at home, she wouldn’t have made such a mistake.
“Don’t overthink it. Let’s go to the hospital and find out.”
By the time Zachary and Serenity arrived, Jasmine had already been taken to the delivery room.
The waiting area was filled with members of the Bucham and Sox families. Josh was pacing anxiously in front of the delivery room doors, repeatedly muttering, “Please, let everything go smoothly. Let Jasmine and the baby be safe.”
Seeing his distressed friend, Zachary didn’t dare ask him anything. Instead, he turned to Mrs. Bucham. “Auntie, why did Jasmine go into labor early?”
Mrs. Bucham sighed. “We don’t know. The doctor said everything looked normal—just a routine delivery. Maybe the baby was just eager to come into the world.”
Serenity frowned. “She didn’t fall, right? And she didn’t eat anything she shouldn’t have?”
“No, she never fell. And I was with her every day. She barely had any time alone, unless she ate something in her room. But even then, Josh says she didn’t. Jasmine herself said she just felt normal contractions, then her water broke. By the time we got here, she was already five centimeters dilated. Everything happened so fast.”
Mrs. Bucham tried to reassure Serenity. “The baby is in the right position. Everything should be fine. Try not to worry too much.”
But despite her words, the concern in her own eyes was evident.
Premature births were never ideal. If the baby had stayed in the womb just two or three more weeks, it would have been full-term. But now, they had no choice but to hope for the best.
“Seren, why don’t you go home? We’ll call you as soon as Jasmine gives birth,” Mrs. Bucham suggested.
She had noticed how pale Serenity looked. Given that Serenity was also pregnant, she worried the stress might cause complications for her as well.
Serenity shook her head. “Auntie, I was supposed to come here for my prenatal check-up anyway.”
Mrs. Bucham immediately said, “Then go for your check-up first. Jasmine just went in—this could take a while. Once you’re done, she might have already given birth.”
Serenity hesitated but nodded, knowing there was nothing more she could do but wait.
Married At First Sight Chapter 4223
Chapter 4223
Zachary was worried that his beloved wife might be shaken by Jasmine’s sudden premature labor, so he gently urged Serenity to go for her prenatal checkup first.
There wasn’t much they could do here.
After repeated persuasion from everyone, Serenity finally agreed to go for her checkup.
Zachary accompanied her.
As soon as the young couple left, the delivery room door swung open. A nurse stepped out and called, “Is Jasmine’s husband here?”
“Yes, I am.” Josh immediately responded, rushing forward with the others.
The nurse reassured them, “The mother is fine, but she’s in a lot of pain. She’s asking for her husband to be with her.”
Everyone let out a sigh of relief.
Josh hurried in but was stopped by the nurse, who handed him a set of scrubs. “Change first,” she instructed before leading him into the delivery room.
Inside, Jasmine screamed in agony. The moment she saw Josh, she grabbed his hand and sank her teeth into it.
“It hurts so much!”
“Josh, this is all your fault!”
“I don’t want to have another baby! It hurts too much!”
Childbirth was an excruciating level-10 pain.
“Yes, yes, it’s my fault. We won’t have another baby. This is the last one, I promise!” Josh assured her over and over.
“Wife, bite me, go ahead.” He leaned in, offering his arm.
Jasmine didn’t hesitate—she bit down hard.
The doctor instructed her to push, and she obeyed, taking deep breaths between efforts.
Time dragged on. Behind his surgical mask, Josh’s face grew paler by the second.
Why wasn’t the baby coming out?
Baby, since you decided to arrive early, don’t make things harder for your mom. She carried you for nine months—it wasn’t easy. Don’t give her more trouble now.
Josh silently chanted prayers in his heart, desperately wishing for his wife’s safe delivery.
He lost all sense of time. It felt like an eternity until finally, the doctor’s voice rang out: “The baby’s out.”
Moments later, a baby’s cry filled the room.
It was a clear but soft wail—probably due to the premature birth.
“It’s a boy,” the doctor announced.
“Six pounds and three ounces.”
Thud!
A muffled sound made everyone jump.
Josh had fainted.
Jasmine: “…”
Was this really the same strong and fearless man she had married?
Outside, the waiting family members anxiously turned their heads as the delivery room doors opened.
Everyone crowded around, expecting to see Jasmine.
Instead, they saw Josh being carried out, unconscious.
A heavy silence fell over the group.
Mrs. Sox’s legs gave out. Her son barely caught her. “Mom!”
Tears welled in her eyes. “Your sister…”
She assumed the worst—that something had happened to Jasmine.
Josh loved his wife deeply. If anything had gone wrong, it would have been unbearable for him.
Just as everyone’s anxiety peaked, the nurse spoke up: “Congratulations! The mother and baby are both safe. It’s a healthy boy, weighing 6.32 pounds.”
The tension instantly lifted.
The nurse added, “Her husband must have been overwhelmed. After the baby was safely delivered, he fainted. Someone help him to rest over there. The mother won’t be out for a while.”
Married At First Sight Chapter 4224
Chapter 4224
The mood shifted from sorrow to joy in an instant.
Mrs. Sox, who had been trembling just moments ago, suddenly regained her composure. She no longer needed her son’s support and stepped forward to ask the nurse, “The baby is premature. Does he need to stay in an incubator?”
The nurse reassured her, “He’ll be placed in the incubator for observation. If everything checks out, he’ll return to his mother soon. The baby weighs over six pounds, and at thirty-five weeks, he’s not too premature. If he had gone full-term, he could have been seven or eight pounds.”
Julian helped prop Josh up against a chair and then turned his attention back to the newborn.
Both the Bucham and Sox families were relieved and overjoyed.
Jasmine’s sudden labor had given everyone a scare, but now, mother and baby were safe.
No one bothered waking Josh. They let him stay unconscious, slumped in his chair.
By the time Serenity returned from her prenatal checkup, Jasmine had already been moved to a high-end VIP ward.
“Jasmine!”
Seeing her friend and the baby safe, Serenity finally felt at ease. She had been so worried that even during her checkup, the doctor had mistaken her pale face for illness.
“Serenity, why are you here? You’re still pregnant!” Jasmine exclaimed.
Before coming to the hospital, she had told her in-laws not to inform Serenity right away. She didn’t want her friend to worry and risk early labor herself.
Serenity was over seven months pregnant—Jasmine’s baby had arrived at thirty-five weeks, but Serenity’s wasn’t even at thirty weeks yet. A premature birth for her would be far riskier.
“I had a prenatal checkup scheduled for this morning, and Zachary came with me. On the way, we saw Josh running out of the office. Zachary asked him what was wrong, and he told us you were in premature labor. I was so scared that I rushed over. When we arrived, you had just entered the delivery room. Since they said you wouldn’t give birth right away, I went for my checkup first.”
Serenity sat by Jasmine’s bedside, smiling. “Jasmine, congratulations!”
Jasmine returned the smile. “Thank you.”
“How long will the baby be in the incubator?” Serenity asked with concern.
Thirty-five weeks was still considered premature, and there were always risks.
“The doctor said he’s very healthy, and all his indicators are normal. He should only need an hour or two in the incubator.”
“That’s great.” Serenity finally relaxed. Her gaze shifted to the man lying on the bed next to Jasmine.
Jasmine followed her eyes and chuckled. “Josh actually fainted. Right after I gave birth, he passed out from shock. I was terrified.”
Serenity smiled knowingly. “He was too nervous. His anxiety had been stretched so tight that once he knew you were safe, he couldn’t handle it anymore. He loves you that much.”
Honestly, Jasmine seemed to be in better shape than Josh.
Just then, Josh slowly regained consciousness. His eyes fluttered open, and he stared at the white ceiling in confusion.
It took a moment for his senses to return.
Suddenly, he bolted upright.
“Careful! Don’t fall!” Jasmine warned.
Josh ignored everything else. “Wife! Wife! Are you okay?”
He was about to rush toward her when Zachary quickly stepped in, blocking Serenity to keep her from getting bumped in the chaos.
Married At First Sight Chapter 4225
Chapter 4225
“Wife, I’m so glad you’re okay. We won’t have any more children after this. Just this one is enough.”
Josh held Jasmine’s hand tightly, repeating his words as if trying to convince himself.
Childbirth was too painful.
And too risky.
People always say that when a woman gives birth, she has one foot in the grave. Josh had been with Jasmine through the entire process, and it had terrified him.
God knows how scared he was.
He had been terrified that something might happen to her.
But thankfully, it was over now.
Both mother and baby were safe.
Still, Josh didn’t want to go through that fear again.
One child was enough.
He didn’t need a second or third. The Bucham family was already thriving—expanding the lineage wasn’t solely his responsibility.
“You’re right. No more. Never again.”
Although Jasmine recovered quickly from a normal delivery, and despite the overwhelming love she felt for her newborn, she still thought the pain of childbirth was unbearable.
Whether or not she ever had another child, she wouldn’t even consider it for the next few years.
Her parents and in-laws probably wouldn’t pressure her either.
Serenity nudged Zachary and quietly slipped away with him. They didn’t want to disturb Josh and Jasmine’s moment.
Meanwhile, in the sitting room, the Bucham and Sox families were busy discussing baby names.
Just then, the baby was carried back into the room by a nurse, with Julian’s parents following closely behind.
Seeing her sister-in-law become a grandmother, Julian’s mother sighed enviously. “I wonder when it will be my turn to become a grandmother.”
Mrs. Bucham chuckled. “What’s the rush? Julian is married now, but he and his wife are still enjoying their time together. Give them a couple of years. As long as they don’t decide to be child-free, it’s only a matter of time before you have a grandchild.”
Julian’s mother smiled. “Yes, you’re right. It’s just a matter of time.”
Still, she couldn’t help but feel a little envious.
It’s human nature—once you achieve one thing, you start longing for more.
At first, all she had wished for was for Julian to meet the right woman and settle down. That alone would have satisfied her.
Now that he was happily married, she found herself looking forward to holding a grandchild.
And if Julian and his wife had a son, she would undoubtedly start hoping for a granddaughter next.
As the baby was brought in, everyone immediately crowded around for a look.
With so many people present, only the elders managed to squeeze to the front.
The younger relatives respectfully stepped aside for them.
Serenity wanted to take a peek at the baby too, but Zachary held her back.
“Seren, we can come see him tomorrow. It’s too crowded today.”
He glanced at her belly, a silent reminder for her to take care of herself.
Serenity smiled. “Alright. A new baby is a big deal, after all.”
Everyone in the room was beaming with joy.
Worried about his wife, Zachary said a few words to Josh’s parents before leading Serenity away.
On the way home, she couldn’t stop talking about the baby.
Even though she hadn’t actually seen him.
“Honey, do you think Jasmine’s baby looks more like her or Josh?”
Zachary replied, “Well, he has to look like one of them—or maybe a mix of both.”
He hadn’t seen the baby either, so how would he know?
“Newborns change so fast,” he added. “Give it some time, and we’ll see who he really takes after.”
Serenity nodded. “Oh, I should call Elisa and share the good news.”
Jasmine was probably too exhausted to inform her friends, and Serenity had been too preoccupied to think of calling earlier.
Married At First Sight Chapter 4226
Chapter 4226
Zachary suggested she wait until they got in the car since the hospital was too crowded.
Serenity agreed, but the moment they sat down, she pulled out her phone and called Elisa.
Elisa was swamped with work at the company.
Among the three shareholders, she was the only one managing the business. Serenity and Jasmine were both pregnant, and even if they wanted to work, Elisa wouldn’t allow it.
Their priority was taking care of themselves and their babies.
She was unmarried and not expecting, so it was fine for her to take on the workload.
A few rings later, Elisa answered the call. “Seren?”
She balanced her phone in one hand while flipping through a contract with the other. Across from her sat several business partners waiting to sign the deal.
Serenity got straight to the point. “Elisa, I have great news! Jasmine had her baby. Both mom and baby are safe. I just left the hospital.”
Elisa’s face lit up. “Jasmine already gave birth? But wait, wasn’t she not due yet? She hasn’t even hit the full nine months! Why so soon?”
After the initial excitement, she realized Jasmine had delivered early.
“Yeah, it was premature,” Serenity confirmed.
Elisa’s concern spiked. “Did she fall? Eat something bad?”
Though she wasn’t a mother herself, she had closely observed her sister-in-law’s pregnancy and knew how careful expectant mothers had to be.
“No, nothing like that. Just an early delivery. Maybe the baby was just eager to see the world.”
“Is he okay? Does he need an incubator?”
“Nope. After two hours of observation, the doctors said he’s perfectly healthy. He may have been early, but he still weighed 6.32 pounds. If he had been full-term, he would’ve been at least 7.5 pounds.”
Elisa smiled. “That’s a strong baby. Boys tend to have bigger builds anyway. My nephew was over seven pounds when he was born. I’ll head to the hospital as soon as I finish signing this contract. Seren, you take care of yourself too.”
Serenity nodded. “I know. I’ll be more careful from now on. No more running around. When I get bored, I’ll just walk in the yard, read, or write.”
“Sounds like a good idea. You can even start prenatal education—get the baby into books and writing before he’s born. Maybe you’ll raise a little genius.”
Serenity laughed. “We’ll see.”
Elisa chuckled. “Come on, you and your husband are both smart and talented. Your kid is bound to be brilliant.”
“That’s not always how it works. Plenty of straight-A students have kids who struggle in school. And sometimes, the most intelligent families have at least one child who can’t pass a test to save their life. You can’t count on good genes forever.”
Elisa smirked. “That might be true for other families, but not Zachary’s. The York family has been producing brilliant minds for generations. Have you ever met an idiot in your husband’s family? Don’t worry, your kid’s going to be sharp—just like his dad. He’ll be a leader one day.”
Serenity smiled. “Honestly, I just want my child to be healthy, safe, and happy. That’s all that really matters.”
Even if their child wasn’t the smartest, she wouldn’t mind.
With so many York children in this generation, surely someone would end up being the family genius.
And whoever that was, they’d be the one to lead the next generation forward.
Married At First Sight Chapter 4227
Chapter 4227
“Health is the most important thing. Everything else comes second. With the York family’s wealth and influence, even if my nephew is just average, they won’t have to worry about lacking a successor.”
Privately, though, Elisa still hoped her nephew would become the next head of the York family.
Now that the Stone and York families were related by marriage, her nephew was not only her relative but also Serenity’s cousin. He would likely inherit the Stone family’s legacy. If the York family’s successor wasn’t her nephew, would that strain the newly improved relationship between the two families?
After all, the next head of the York family wouldn’t be directly connected to the Stone family anymore.
Elisa kept those thoughts to herself, not wanting to pressure Serenity. Besides, from her nephew’s perspective, good health mattered more than anything else.
“Elisa, you’re busy. I won’t keep you. You and Remy have been working so hard lately.”
Elisa had been swamped, and Remy, feeling sorry for her, did everything he could to help. He was more capable than Elisa in some areas, and at times, she would let him handle her workload. Over time, he had learned everything about her business, making it easier to support her whenever needed.
“Serenity, stop with the formalities. We’re not just cousins—we’re best friends.”
“You and Jasmine are my closest girlfriends. I may not have many great qualities, but I’m loyal.”
Being loyal could be both a strength and a weakness. Sometimes, people who were overly affectionate made mistakes because of it.
Serenity chuckled. “Alright, alright, no more formalities. I’ll hang up now.”
She ended the call quickly, not wanting to take up more of Elisa’s time.
Feeling cheerful, Elisa reviewed and signed a contract with a business partner. Afterward, she smiled apologetically and said, “I wanted to invite you for tea and dinner, but I just got a call from Serenity. My friend just had a baby, and I’d like to visit her in the hospital. Let’s reschedule dinner. My secretary will see you out.”
The partners laughed. “That’s wonderful news! Go visit your friend. We’ll treat you to dinner another day.”
This company had three female CEOs, all from influential families. They rarely hosted business dinners, not because they didn’t want to, but because if they did, their husbands—who were also powerful figures—would insist on joining. That often made others feel pressured rather than relaxed.
When they did attend social events, they never had to drink unless they wanted to. No one dared pressure them, especially with men like Mr. York watching. His cold stare alone could make anyone freeze. As for Miss Stone’s fiancé, Remy, he might seem warm and gentle, but he was a formidable businessman.
Elisa shook hands with her partners, personally seeing them out before returning to her desk. She tidied up, shut down her computer, grabbed her bag, and left.
Just outside, her secretary approached. “Miss Stone, where are you going? It’s almost time for the meeting.”
Married At First Sight Chapter 4228
Chapter 4228
Elisa replied, “Let’s push the meeting to tomorrow. I need to go to the hospital. Jasmine just had a baby—a boy, 6.32 pounds. Both mother and child are doing well.”
The secretary smiled. “I’ll give her a call to congratulate her.”
She had no intention of tagging along. Elisa was the boss, and unless she was invited, she’d visit Jasmine on her own time.
Elisa headed out excitedly.
A Maybach was parked outside. Remy, seeing her, rolled down the window and waved.
Elisa walked over with a bright smile. “Why didn’t you come inside?”
Remy got out of the car. “I just got here and saw you coming out, so I waited. Where are you headed?”
“Jasmine had her baby! I’m going to the hospital to see her and the little one. You came at the perfect time—let’s go together. But first, let’s pick up some gifts.”
Remy immediately opened the car door for her. As he got in, he asked, “Wasn’t Jasmine’s due date still a month away? Why did she deliver early?”
It wasn’t that Remy kept track of other women’s pregnancies, but Elisa had mentioned it so often that he remembered.
“She went into labor early. Serenity happened to be at the hospital for a checkup and found out. Thankfully, both mother and baby are fine. The baby was placed in an incubator for observation but is doing well and is now with Jasmine.”
Elisa smiled. “It’s great news! I have to see them.”
As Remy drove, he mused, “Strange. Josh loves posting about his wife online. He shares their daily life constantly, but now that he’s a dad, he hasn’t posted anything.”
Elisa hadn’t added Josh on social media—he was her friend’s husband, after all. She only had his contact for business reasons.
“Maybe he’s too busy to post,” she guessed.
What she didn’t know was that Josh had been so overwhelmed during the birth that he fainted from nerves. Posting on social media was the last thing on his mind.
His attention was solely on his wife. He had barely glanced at his newborn before rushing back to be with her.
Married At First Sight Chapter 4229
Chapter 4229
Remy thought about it—if he ever became a father, he’d be overjoyed, so much so that he’d probably forget to post about it on social media.
He and his friends were always busy and never really had the habit of posting. Josh, however, had started after getting married, flaunting his love just to annoy the singles. Even Zachary, who usually kept to himself, occasionally shared sweet moments online.
Remy suddenly felt like he should keep up with the trend. Maybe he’d start posting once in a while to show off his own happiness.
Before heading to the hospital, he and Elisa stopped to buy some nutritional supplements.
Jasmine’s hospital room was crowded. Most of the men were gathered in the small living room, while the women were inside, chatting with Jasmine or watching the baby.
The little one had just been fed and changed and was now sound asleep.
“Jasmine.”
Elisa walked in, carrying the supplements.
Remy, knowing his place, stayed by the door. Since he wasn’t a relative, it wouldn’t be appropriate for him to enter. He simply congratulated Josh, took a quick glance at the baby, and then stepped back.
“Elisa, you’re here.”
Jasmine was sitting up in bed, finishing a bowl of porridge. She was starving.
After a natural delivery, she had needed some time to rest before eating something light. Seeing Elisa, she put the bowl down, having just finished.
“I heard from Serenity that you gave birth, so I rushed over,” Elisa said, handing the supplements to Mrs. Bucham. She smiled at Jasmine. “I got these for you. You’ll need to take them once you’re home—you have to recover properly.”
Jasmine sighed. “I have so many supplements at home already. I don’t think I’ll ever finish them.”
Elisa chuckled. “Then eat more! What’s at home belongs to your family, but this is from me. You can’t let my effort go to waste. Promise me you’ll take them.”
Mrs. Bucham laughed. “Jasmine’s already overwhelmed with supplements.”
“Still, after giving birth, she needs to replenish her body.”
Throughout her pregnancy, Jasmine had followed a strict diet planned by a nutritionist. Thanks to that, her baby had developed well. Even though he was born a little early, he still weighed over six pounds.
The doctors had said that if he had gone full-term, he would’ve likely been around seven and a half to eight pounds—a chubby little boy.
Maybe the baby didn’t want to be too big, so he decided to come early. Six pounds was just right.
After chatting with Jasmine for a while, Elisa turned her attention to the baby.
“He’s so cute. He looks like you, Jasmine.”
She bent down and gently touched the baby’s cheek. He reminded her of her nephew when he was born.
“Well, his head is a little long,” she noted.
Mrs. Sox chimed in, “Babies born naturally often have elongated heads at first, but it’ll go back to normal soon.”
Elisa recalled her nephew looking the same way when he was born and nodded. Babies changed so much, even within days.
When her nephew was first born, people said he was handsome, but honestly, she had to force herself to agree. But after three months, he truly became adorable—everyone doted on him.
Now, he was Grandpa Jimenez’s little treasure.
Sometimes, when her sister-in-law, Alice, took the baby to the room to sleep, Grandpa Jimenez would knock every few minutes, asking if he was awake.
Eventually, Alice gave up on moving the baby. Instead, she let him sleep in the crib in the living room while Grandpa Jimenez sat beside him, watching over him.
Married At First Sight Chapter 4230
Chapter 4230
Watching the baby sleep helped Grandpa Jimenez sleep peacefully, too.
“Does he really look like me?” Jasmine smiled. “I can’t tell. He’s so tiny. I’m honestly scared to hold him—I feel like he might slip right out of my arms.”
It was her first time being a mom. She was completely new to this and had no experience.
Unlike Serenity, who had taken care of babies before, she was learning everything from scratch.
Josh, on the other hand, had secretly taken parenting classes with Zachary. He already knew how to handle a baby better than she did.
“You’ll get used to it,” Elisa reassured her. “I was terrified to hold my nephew at first, too. But now, I’ve got it down.”
She couldn’t resist touching the baby’s cheek again. She absolutely loved babies.
“Has he eaten?” she asked.
“He ate about an hour ago,” Mrs. Sox replied. “He’s got quite the appetite.”
Everyone was relieved that he was feeding well.
The doctor had mentioned that mild jaundice might appear in the next few days. It was common in newborns, especially premature ones. There was a natural process—onset, peak, and decline. As long as it wasn’t severe, there was no cause for concern.
Jasmine didn’t know much about these things, but Elisa did. After all, she was an aunt now.
She stayed at the hospital until it got dark, reluctant to leave. When she finally stepped outside with Remy, she said, “Let’s cook at your place tonight instead of eating out.”
Since their families were neighbors, it was convenient. They could have a meal, take a walk, chat, and head home whenever they wanted—no need to worry about time.
They were engaged now, so no one would think twice if she spent time at his house.
Still, Elisa had never stayed overnight at Remy’s place.
She wanted to save that for their wedding night.
Remy deeply respected that.
His love for her ran deep, but he never crossed the line. No matter how much he adored her, he always waited for her consent.
This man truly cherished her.
And Elisa loved him just as much.
Looking back, she was grateful that she had let go of her old infatuation with Zachary. Otherwise, she might have missed out on Remy—the man who was meant for her.
“Alright,” Remy agreed, his voice full of warmth.
Nothing made him happier than cooking for the woman he loved.
Elisa had been spoiled since childhood. As the youngest and only daughter in her family, everyone doted on her. She was the worst cook among her friends.
Remy, on the other hand, had grown up in luxury, too, but his family valued discipline and self-sufficiency, much like the Yorks. He had been raised to excel in everything, including cooking.
On the way home, Elisa kept talking about kids.
Remy listened, smiling, chiming in every now and then.
“Remy, how many kids do you want after we get married?” she asked.
“You decide,” he said. “But if it were up to me, just one. I can’t bear to see you go through the pain of pregnancy more than once.”
Elisa’s heart melted. “One would be too lonely. Let’s have two. That way, they’ll have a sibling.”
Remy chuckled. “Our child will never be lonely. They’ll have plenty of cousins and friends. My brothers are already expanding the family. Our baby isn’t even born yet, but they already have four cousins—three boys and a girl.”
He came from a big family himself. Most of his cousins were practically like real brothers to him.
Their child would grow up surrounded by love.
