Holden wasn’t sure how much private property Clarissa had, but he assumed it was a lot. After taking control of the family, Clarissa had worked hard to privatize much of the family’s assets. Holden guessed it must be worth hundreds of millions, maybe even billions.
As he thought about all that money, resentment toward Clarissa flared up again. Why should he feel sad? He had been under her control for decades. Now that she was gone, he should feel relief, not grief.

“How dare she speak to her father like that! Doesn’t she fear karma?”
“If you don’t listen to your father, you’ll regret it later. She’ll lose all the benefits she’s worked for. I’ve never seen such a fool!” Holden was furious that Kathryn ignored his advice and spoke to him so harshly, but he couldn’t do anything about it.
Kathryn’s strength reminded him too much of her mother. At first, Holden thought Kathryn was spoiled. Even though Shiloh’s biological parents hadn’t treated Kathryn well, Kathryn still managed to stand strong. Now, Shiloh’s relatives were too scared to even approach Kathryn.

Marco’s eyes lit up at first, but then his face fell. “Dad, we’re not allowed to enter the mansion anymore, except for Kathryn.”
“What do you mean?” Holden asked, shocked.
“Mrs. Stone has stationed guards there and even sent people inside. All the servants have been replaced, and even the butler has been removed,” Marco explained.
Holden was speechless. “Why is she doing that?”
Marco didn’t respond.
Audrey, whose surname was Farrell, was the eldest daughter of the previous Matriarch. She should have been the head of the family, but Marco’s mother prevented her from taking over. Now, Audrey was back to reclaim everything.
With Clarissa and Mr. Dunn both dead, the outcome was clear.
The Farrell family was returning to the descendants of the previous Matriarch. Marco and his family no longer had control over the mansion—they were no longer the owners.
Although Audrey or Liberty hadn’t officially taken over the family yet, it was almost certain they would.
Even the attitude of the clan members toward them had turned sour.
Marco was furious.

Holden was livid. His own daughter, Kathryn, wouldn’t listen to him and even threatened him. That was one thing, but not being able to take his wife’s jewelry, art, and antiques—that was a loss of hundreds of millions!
Holden felt like his heart was bleeding.
Marco, full of regret, said, “We can’t take any money from the company—that would be embezzlement, and we’d end up in jail. It’s our fault for not listening to you earlier, Dad. If we had, we could have packed everything up and left for home sooner, maybe even gotten more.”

They owned a few houses for rent and a handful of stores in their hometown. They could make a living from collecting rent, but their carefree days of spending without limits were over.
When Clarissa was alive, Marco thought she was too strict, always controlling and scolding them. Now that she was gone, he realized life had been better with her around.
